Hi
I don't really want to raise this again, best left buried but out of interest, it took 2 days for a reply to meditiators on the forum to do anything to my mistake of a post.
I have complained badly as the site was down for hours too. Also gave complaints about mag that others have given recently.
I hardly expect it to make any differnce, but all I could do, doubt that the'll take notice of all you have said, still, I tried !!

Morning Carsma and Splash
Im amazed that the moderators did respond - far worse things have happened at sea and got ignored.
If inappropriate things get posted, either on purpose or by mistake, they should be removed instantly. Perhaps they like to watch bun fights.
What do they actually do then I wonder?
Have a good day both of you.

I don't know, but I suspect that the moderators do other jobs and moderating is an add on and therefore they are only on here occasionally and certainly not at night when postings are at their lowest.

Hi everyone.Maybe their policy is that they dont actually make a judgement about a post unless people start to complain about it? The forum does really belong to the people on it. But if this is their policy, they should be observing enough to be able to see when there is a negative reaction from forum members to the content of a post, and then take the decision themselves to delete it immediately. Have a great day ladies. Row

Hi Carsma and All,
Quite honestly, I am of the opinion, that as soon as a situation is occurring where personal insults of any kind are on view, or anything of a personal nature, this is the time for any moderator to intervene, and delete immediately.
I have been at the butt of some pretty cruel, and uncalled for personal comments over the last few months, and nothing was done, or indeed said.
As Kez so rightly said, time to move on.

I work for a company that amongst other things hosts websites. I can safely say that we do get problems that mean sites go down occasionally without notice or we need to take them down to apply updates. It's not always possible to notify users in advance and yes, it can take a few hours (or longer) to repair problems. Most companies looking after websites are reactive rather than proactive (the staff simply don't have the time to check every website at regular intervals through the day) so most likely the hosting company (it's unlikely to actually be hosted by W&H staff because they aren't an IT company) won't react to a failure until notified by the company paying the bill because they simply won't know about it - that is the way most web hosting operates and is normal.
As for moderators, well, yes they always have other jobs. Most of the time moderating a forum isn't a major part of anyone's job. People can also be out of the office etc. Having had the role of moderator for a website for a commecial organisation I do have some experience in this area and what you'd moderate on a forum run by you and your friends is probably very different to what's moderated on a commercial site such as this one. The assumption normally is that unless something that's posted is illegal (slander, libel, promoting something that's clearly not legal or advertising the opposition or ripping your product apart without good reason) it will be dealt with in due course but not treated as urgent. Also as a moderator you make the decision to remove items not just obey the requests of those who contact you. If you think the topic or post is a valid part of a discussion or that later posts explain or apologise for a situation then there's no need to remove things. If it's just one person saying "I don't like what she said" then it's not really a cause for the moderator to step in - their job is not to resolve upsets (or slanging matches) between individuals. Unfortunately on a commercial forum it's down to those posting to be grown up, think about the feelings of others and not get into personal name calling and slanging matches (those involved just make themselves look very childish anyway). Also W&H is a magazine that trades on women's reactions, behaviour etc (makes good source for copy) so it's probably not in their own interests to moderate too heavily...
Ok, this probably isn't what you want to hear but I'm afraid it's how things do tend to operate. The moral of the story being think before you post and if someone insults you just try a gentle post of "I think what you said was unnecessary and unkind but I respect your opinion and hope in turn you respect mine". That way anything further they say really does make them look stupid.
(And just to be clear, I'm not making any comments on anything or anyone...this is just general stuff).

I think it's a shame that we can't seem to moderate ourselves.
