Ideas for fundraising for a new charity Rachel has set up with other parents of autistic children.

One thought I had was this - but it may need parents with girls at secondary school.

How about a fashion show at the school? I could see girls getting interested in mounting a fashion show in the gym/hall, gives them a chance to show off and do modelling etc, of their fave outfits. (You might get the teenage boys involved, but somehow I doubt it!!!! )(except to watch the girls of course rather than twirl down the runway themselves!!!!).

You could have the girls dress up in different categories - daywear, outdoors, sportswear, evening wear, 'fantasy wear/'dressing up/theatrical fashion', (parents might say no to swimwear however!!!). There could be a small charge for each girl for each fashion category she entered.

Maybe they could all be tasked with being sent out to the local charity shops to buy an outfit and put it together on the cheap, or make it themselves, or chums could club together to form their own 'house of fashion/fashion label' a la the couture houses.

Then there could be a charge for admission to the fashion show, plus maybe stalls on things like make-up, nails, hair, accessories etc, plus even selling on clothes (maybe the girls could all donate one or more items from their own wardrobes on a bring and buy basis.)(The boys might join in with this bit!).

There could be refreshment stalls too, taking money from parents and participants, which would also help raise funds.

If the school won't allow it, maybe it could be held at a local sports hall or community hall?

If the boys won't participate in the actual show, maybe they could do the lights/sound etc etc?

Anyway, it's only an idea, and maybe there are all sorts of objections (er, reinforcing 'girls are only for show' stereotypes??!!!). The emphasis DEFINITELY has to be that this is a FASHION show to show off CLOTHES but NOT the girls themselves!!! I'ts not a beauty pageant!!!

Julie.

Smartie tubes is a good money raiser.
You give out Smartie tubes. The people eat the Smarties and bring the tube back full of 20p pieces. They can take varying amounts of time to fill.I think they hold £9 or £10.
