Yes we went a couple of year ago. The hotels there are very nice and clean and food good, much better than I thought it would be. The shops are not that good so don't bother with them. Beaches nice but not much else to do unless you like scubber diving or snorkling. It is a good place to relax and take in the sun if that's all you want. We had a nice night at a beach BBQ but there wasn't much when we went in the way of night life.
If you would want to do more and haven't been to see the Pyramids yet, you might want to do what we did, which was to spend 4 nights at Sharmel Sheikh and 3 nights in Cairo. We booked at a nice hotel directly in SS by checking internet to see which one we liked best at the price we wanted to pay. Don't be afraid to phone them to ask what offers they are doing. Make sure you stay at one with a beach as at some of them you have to cross the busy road to get to it.
We then booked a hotel very near the Pyramids in Cairo. The flights are a bit more difficult as we couldn't actually fly to SS and then home from Cairo unless you want to spend loads more money. We had to fly to Cairo and then take another domesic flight to SS. We then flew on a domestic flight to Cairo and stayed there for 3 nights before flying home from Cairo. It was a great trip with the relaxation bit in SS and then loads to do in Cairo which is a city of fantastic sights and cultural differences. If you do stay there it is worth paying for a personal guide to take you around as it wasn't that expensive and was well worth it.

I think the weather is good with no rain all year round. There are not really any sights to see at Sharm except for underwater. You will get a good hotel, sunshine and warm water though. A perfect winter sun destination.
The only downside for me, which would preclude us going again, was that the flight is just too long to warrant a normal sized charter flight plane. As it can be 6 hours flight time it should be classified as long haul and warrant a larger plane.

Hi BQ
We went in January last year. Stayed in a lovely hotel for a week and didn't really venture out much. We went to N'aama Bay one day and couldn't wait to get back to the sanctuary of our hotel. The staff were great and very attentive.
The weather was good in the day but the evenings can be chilly. Sharm El Sheikh is bit pretty much a manmade resort but if you are just looking for somewhere to relax with warm weather i think its worth a visit.

I love sharm. Have been several times.I agree nothing to do sightseeing wise, but the idea is for a beach holiday. I always stay in Naama Bay itself- yes it is a bit "OTT" False Palm trees with lights in- very glitzy, cheap tacky vegas style. but so what- stick to the "promenade" that goes from Sonesta Beach hotel right through to naama shops and bars. There are bars and restaurants all the way along which are pleasanter than in the centre( unless you like hard rock cafe etc). It is cold in January at night for sure- go to rooftop Camel Bar and they have patio heaters and brilliant views of the Bay so after a glass of wine it does not feel that cold! the hotels outside of Sharm - most are all inclusive and mostly known hotel chains, so yes if you just want to stay in a hotel and not leave the grounds these are amazing, but if you enjoy trying other restaurants and bars Naama is the place! Enjoy it
