Eyes Down club - new list.
      #498361 - 01/11/2009 17:19

I thought it was about time to draw up a new list and there have been a few suggestions so here it is:-
January The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman- suggested by Zib.

February Portrait of an Unknown Woman by Vanora Bennett suggested by aitch2oh.

March Red Leaves by Paullina Simons suggested by juliejug ( she actually suggested 'The Bronze Horseman' by the same author but I chose this one because it's shorter).

April The Music Room by William Fiennes - we have previously read 'The Snow Geese' by this author which most people enjoyed.

May Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lisa Evans - suggested by billie

June Artic Chill by Arnaldur Indridason - I chose this because I've never read a book set in Reykjavik and Scandanavian novels are very 'in' at the moment!

Happy reading

Hi snoopy

These sound brilliant and I haven't read any of them before - even better!

I've just finished Defying Hitler so off to look for the right place to talk about it ...

Hi debz

I haven't been organised enough to take part before and I'm just guessing we read the book and then join in the chat about it .. as far as I understand that's about it?

I know that other ladies have been doing this for a while so maybe they'll add more ..

Ok, Thanks Mags! I have something to put on my Wish List for Santa now - lots of books I havent read. I look forward to the discussions....
I received an order from Amazon on Saturday, amongst which is The Road Home that you recommended. I finished off The Broken Window before work this morning (Jeffrey Deaver), so am ready to start a new one at bedtime tonight. I will let you know what I think....

I'd love to join in.

I'm printing the list off and posting it on the wall next to my desk.

I can never take for granted the euphoria produced by a cup of coffee. I'm grateful every day that it isn't banned as a drug, that I don't have to buy it from a pusher, that its cost is minimal and there's no need to increase the intake. I can count on its stimulation 365 mornings every year. And thanks to the magic in a cup of coffee, I'm able to plunge into a whole day's cheerful thinking.

Great - lots of enthusiasm for the new list. Don't forget that we still have 'Mr Pip' to read this month. Debz, I read 'The Road Home' earlier this year. Rose Tremain is one of my favourite authors because I think she's so varied. I've just acquired a copy of 'Music and Silence' which I'm really looking forward to.

Debz, I'm glad that you're enjoying The Road Home. I agree with snoopy - she is such a versatile author - Music and Silence is excellent although totally different in style and subject

I absolutely loved The Music room, not sure whether it is out in paperback and remember that it was quite expensive in hardback but I am sure that it could be pre ordered from a library.......
