How long have you had the same style?
I have short, layered hair so it is always very much the same. Over the last few years I have tried to grow it a bit longer only so that there is enough to shape into a different style.
At least 3 times I have visited a hairdresser and explained that I would like an update and asked if my hair is long enough yet to reshape and do something different with? They have said , oh yes, we can do this and that.... At least 3 times !'ve come out with the same style. I try to blow dry this way or that to make a change but it is minimal.
I suppose I could go a bit more daring with the colour (though I've been there when it was red hair week!). What do you do?

Mine is just the same because it is easy and suits me - simple as that. I have very easy hair to deal with. I think changing things is very difficult and growing hair, particularly bad. You always feel better when at last you admit defeat and go back to how it always was! When my hairdresser asks me how I want it, I now say "the same" please as we both know it works for me. Just change the colour??

Had mine done yesterday? I have always had fairly short hair. I went yesterday with my 15 yr old in tow and was influenced to say take it really short and lighten the colour. This the hairdresser did. I felt a bit obvious on the way home ( all face). OH loves it, my 2 other daughters say I look 10 years younger and my neighbours OH commented on how nice it looked . So quite pleased so far.

Thank you both for your replies.
My OH always says it's taken 10 years off you when I have a trim. I've no wish for long hair that would be too time consuming to keep styled, just a change
.If I have the full treatment at the hairdressers I usually say create something but it must be in keeping with the rest of me! So it is always the same.
I guess that is my answer. Thanks again.

Hi Crafty
I too had mine short and layered for years and it was easy to do and suited me. The only way to get a change was to grow it a bit, which I did and it was a nightmare to look after as with age it has reverted to being curlier and to keep it straight was impossible. Now going for a compromise and am having it restlyed, but still can't get there until bits have grown, still it is started. I have the heavy back cut in with some longer bits sort of whispy at the back, the sides a lot shorter and will be even more when other bits are sorted, and am leaving the fringe layers to grow out. I was told to go armed with a picture of something I liked, which I did, was talked out of some, but found one we both thought would be good. Not much use to you, but it is difficult to do much when it is short, without a certain amount of growing.

I had a perm 2 weeks ago. First time in years. Definitely looks thicker. But I think it is a bit short. That is because a few weeks before that, it had got quite long and I decided I was too old for it on my shoulders. So had a short choppy bob but decided it was lank. Hence the perm! It should grow okay and hopefully be a good length for Christmas. Colour next! Haven't had it highlighted for 12 months but have seen about 3 shiny silver hairs on top, so they have to go!! The hairdresser that did the perm will colour it I know, so thinking about it.
Know what you mean about having the same style all the time. Even if they say they are doing it differently, if you have the same hairdresser, it still looks the same in the end. I do like the way my hairdresser cuts my hair but he doesn't do perms, so hence the change.

My hair has been fairly long (about shoulder blades) with layers for a most of my adult life i had it cut short when i was 13 (my Dad didn't speak to me for a week as he loved my hair) and then grew it and had it short again at 21 but grew it again and have stayed with it. i actually find it easier to manage long and cheaper as when its shorter you need it cutting more. I do look at shorter sleeker styles like the layered bob as they look so stylish but i know on me it won't look the same!

My problem is that I'm trying to find a style that will suit someone of my age (53 and no celebrity lookee-likee!). My hair is curly and unmanageable and I've had it quite short for years because it's the only way to deal with it easily in the morning. I'm going to get it coloured to try and hide the grey (God, what a mess I am!) so I'm going to be reliant on a good stylist. I've used the same mobile hairdresser for a few years because it's easier but now OH has offered to pay for the 'refit'. What an opportunity! Must admit though, I'm approaching the whole thing with some trepidation!

My hair is fine textured but quite a lot of it, naturally curly but looks shaggy and untidy if I scrunch dry it. I am 60 and love a stylish look so have grown it to my shoulders,it's light brown with highlights and wear it up most of the time as I don't like the look of older lasses with long hair hanging down ..agreed??
I adore Sharon Stone's short hair and it's my dream to have it cut like that but she has very fine features and I do not..should I just take the plunge and cut it short !!
I think up do's are aging but what is the alternative with long hair...any ideas or opinions please ??
