An absolutely fabulous meal
      #495966 - 29/10/2009 08:41

had an amzing meal last night cooked by Danny Miller (Great British Menu) Never understood before how the food critics could tell the difference between good and bad food, but after last nights treat I think I understand a bit more!
Had locally caught prawn , crab and cod fishcakes with marie-rose sauce as a starter - wow is the only word for them, followed by Smoked haddock, muscles and prawns in a spring onion and cream sauce with local potatoes -cooked to perfection and the flavour was out of this world - simply could not find room for pudding much to my regret as they looked fabulous. These chefs earn their money!

Sounds great! We had the pleasure of dining at Seaham Hall for my sons 21st recently - Kenny Atkinson's Michelin starred restaurant. It was truly wonderful! ES loves his food, and was interesting to see him appreciate the difference between good homecooked fare, and food of this standard. He was amazed.
We have also had lunch at Atul Kutchers restaurant - Benares, in Mayfair. It was so good OH booked me into a course there (just 1 day) to learn a few secrets.
These chefs are real artists, on a whole different level. Well worth paying a bit extra to experience something so special. I was actually quite surprised at the prices (if you dont drink alcohol) - they are fairly reasonable - a good idea for a special BD, anniversary or Xmas treat..

Hiya

I have also visited Benares , The Fat Duck ( wow , what an experience) Le Manoir ( Raymond Blanc) Ricks Steins, Claridges ( Gordon Ramsey - and actually met him in the foyer!) Northcote Manor ( Nigel Howarth) Angela Harnett and a couple more I think but cant really remember. In fact I made a hobby of it over the years but since I went part time , I think those days are going to be few and far between. Nevertheless , fun whilst it lasted!
