I have had a pain in my lower abdomen (below waistline) for about 4 months now. Doctors said they don't know what it is but it's really starting to bother me. It's like contractions that last for a few hours and REALLY hurt. They only occur every couple of weeks but it's a blinking nuisance! On top of that my hips have started aching in the last few weeks, almost like the sides are being forced backwards. I'm only 17. If anyone knows what these could be from, please help. Thank you. xx

Hi Jamie,
Welcome to the forum.
I feel slightly uneasy about this post, but I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt.
If you have been to the doctor, and they have told you that they dont know what your problems is, and you are still in pain, then I would suggest you ask your mother to accompany you, and go straight back to the your doctor, and insist they do further tests.
As much as we like to be helpful on the forum, most of us are not medically trained, and really do not have the expertise to advise you.
Good Luck

Hi Jamie Lou, Welcome to the Forum.I'm so sorry that you are having these problems.I'm afraid I can't really help but It does seem like it may be linked with your menstrual cycle.Have you seen a gynaecologist or just your GP? I think it may help if you try and keep a diary of times and symptoms to give your doctor a clear idea of what is going on. I'm sure someone with medical knowledge will see your post and give more help than I can. Love, Decx

Hi and welcome to the forum
Can you see a different doctor in the practice? You shouldn't be having so much pain and discomfort, please go back and get this sorted out. I agree with dec, keeping a diary of your symptoms is a very good idea.

Im also a bit hesitant about replying to this..but if its a genuine problem..go back to your doctor and keep going back until they can tell you more than..they dont know what it is,if they are unhelpful, change doctors so you get an answer.

Welcome to the forum and sorry you are in pain JamieLou. The other ladies are all so right in saying you need to go back to the Doctor. That is a great idea to keep a diary of your symptoms and also let Dr know if you have had any change in bowel habits as well. Please let us know how you get on. Good Luck.

jamielou i agree with all the ladies, i myself have an 18yr old daughter, who suffered with pretty bad period pain, i took her along to the gp and she prescribed some very good tablets, which have done the trick. if i was ur mum i would insist on seeing another doctor for advice. good luck.

Hi jamielou
If you are getting nowhere with your doctor, you really need to change to another one, even if it means going to a different practice.
As some of the other ladies have suggested, keeping a diary may help build up a pattern. I presume you are discounting it being anything to do with period pains because it does happen at the right time. There is something called Mittelschmerz which occurs at ovulation, around day 14. It varies slightly for everyone, but usually last for a few days. For me it's horrible cramping pain and my thighs and knees ache as well. BUT, you do need to get a proper diagnosis as there are a number of things it could be.
Good luck Chilla x

Hi Jamielou. Are you saying that the doctor does not know what is causing the pain but has left you with no information as to what to do next? Ask to see a specialist and stop trying to guess what the problem is.

Thanks for the advice. Not too sure why some of you doubted me, why would i make something like that up? It's not exactly funny, but thank you for carrying on and trying to help me anyway. I'm scared of the doctors but will go and see the other one. Is anyone allowed to go in with you? x

Yes, you can take a friend or a family member with you. If you feel a bit nervous, why not write down the questions you want to ask before you go in.
Be brave, be strong and let us know how you get on.......

I'm wondering if it's Irritable Bowel,it can often affect a anxious person. Do go and get a second opinion.

hi jamie lou
i agree you should go back to your doctor but i wondered if you feel its period related being every 2 weeks. my sister had endemetriosis which really hurts and i have had a pain since being young 2 weeks after my period - it only lasts a few hours but its when you ovulate - it can hurt quite a lot -however these are just guesses and you need to find out more
hope this helps
