On way to London tomorrow- need advise

We are travelling down to London-staying near Heathrow before travelling to New York. Need suggestions where to stop off before we go to Hotel near Heathrow. Going from Leicester to Hayes- Other than Milton Keynes Suggestions please-desperate!

If you can manage a bit of a detour Bekonscot model village at Beaconsfield is well worth a visit.
