Just don't go with James Villas. We spent £2400 for a week with them for a 6 bed villa and it was terrible. the outside pool was nice, but the inside was ant infested, the shower overflowed giving the whole place a damp smell, a window actually fell out of the wall and thank god didn't hurt anyone. When I complained to the rep she said that what did I expect for that price!

Try www.holiday-rentals.co.uk. I would have recommended Villa Select but don't think they have anything in Portugal that large.

Thanks for the tip Tuzanne. For some reason I always thought they had a good reputation but a friend at work has a similar experience to you earlier this summer with rats in the villa and the rep didn't seem too bothered!! I thought maybe that was a one-off but hearing your experience has made me think again .

Try The Villa Agency.

They are based in Brighton and I have used them many times for villas in Portugal.

They have all different sizes, from one bedroom to as big as you want.

Give them a go. Good luck. I love Portugal.

We used Villa Plus when we went to Portugal...they were brilliant!

We went with Villas to go and stayed in a gorgeous villa in Carvoeiro. The compnay were great and very responsive.

I'd forgotten about owners direct. They have a huge selection and much cheaper than going through an agency.
Good luck and let us know what you find

Owners direct or holiday rentals, or eastoffaro.com which specialise in lovely villas which are - surprisingly !! - in the faro area. We went last summer and its a great area - less touristy but still plenty to do/see.

Hey

First of all I think Portugal is a great vacation destination! Beautiful country, lots to see and do. I don't know what your budget is for the villa you want to rent but I can give you some ideas of sites I like. This site is good:

http://www.chooseportugal.com/

Most of the villas on there look pretty big. I also like this site, which shows different types of accommodation (villas, apartments, etc) and you can find a style to suit your taste:

http://www.casamundo.co.uk/portugal/

And then I found this site:

http://www.portugalvilla.com/

They don't have the biggest selection but the villas they do list look pretty big.

Many thanks for all the helpful hints. Now all I need to do is get 11 people to agree on the same villa
