I read an article recenty and it shocked me the amount of chemicals that are in our beauty products. Just wondering if any-one makes their own? There were some nice simple recipes but I'm not sure how long they would last for so thought I would see if any-one on forum has tried this. Must also look for sites where the products have no chemicals as that might be simpler than mashing avocados, beating egg yolks etc.

Whooaa.....I would have enough bother mashing avocado and beating egg yolks for a meal, let alone having to do it for cosmetics!
Bring on the Nivea, that's what i say.

I would love to have a go myself but think I could be too lazy! Jacqui_o, would you mind asking your daughter what she would recommend for the scar when it heals please?

Hi aec13cat
I make all my own products for myself and to sell.
Your right, most moisturisers have quite nasty chemicals in them, even Liz Earle is known to throw in a few parabens here and there.
It is quite easy to make your own products, cocoa butter or shea butter, a little beeswax, olive oil or any other good quality oil and a few drops of essential oil and bobs your uncle you have a moisturiser. If you are not putting in a preservative then it should last for about 6 weeks, when it goes off you will see it! Use a clean spatula each time you use the cream, to avoid adding extra bacteria.
Unfortunately to sell cosmetics to the public, there really is no avoiding adding in synthetic chemicals, to preserve and to bond oil and water, to date there is not a natural alternative. When buying a moisturiser, go for organic, alot of the chemicals in these are plant derived and occur naturally.
Hope this helps you
Wendy
