Off to Marrakech in Feb. Has anyone been at that time of year? Any tips or suggestions for places to go/see/eat much appreciated.

Hi Debz.
There has been a previous post on this as a couple of forumers went in March this year - including me!! We stayed in a Riad which was fabulous and then walked everywhere. We enjoyed wandering around the souk which is huge. Others went on excursions to the mountains etc. Can give you more advice nearer the time. PM me if you like.

I went in Feb 2008 & thought it was fab. Weather was warm but comfortable.

Would suggest you get a good guide like the Lonely Planet travel guide and read up about how to deal in the souks etc. Bear in mind the culture and dress appropriately - I wore linen/lightweight trousers and long sleeved t-shirts. You will get less hassle if you do this than if you wear strappy tops/ shorts.

The people are very friendly and certainly in the main square and in the souks will want to sell you things, but if you smile broadly, shake your head and keep walking, they will leave you along.

If you want to take pictures of locals and snakecharmers in the square etc, bear in mind that you will need to pay them a little bit!

Haggle on everything in the souks, on carriage rides etc.

If you use taxis, ensure they put the meter on, and get a price before you get in.

It helps if you can speak French.

Enjoy .. its a wonderful place.
