Hi, we've booked to go to Bali in January and I wondered if any of you could advise of good places to eat/visit. We are staying in the Grand Hyatt Bali in Nusa Dua. Have heard all sorts of stories, anybody got anything to add?

We had a wonderful holiday in Nusa Dua, Bali. However despite warnings in the hotel not to use money exchangers outside the hotel -we did. He tried to rip us off by miss-counting the notes as he was counting them out. So we walked away and he got very aggresive. This was so unexpected as everyone is so nice and friendly. Also I had the worst S&D I have ever had after eating in the hotel at a 'French Evening'. So I would advise not to eat dairy products that have been out on the tables for a few hours such as Brie and creme caramel. Hope this helps!

Thanks suemonag for that will definatley watch what we're doing!!! As I said have heard all sorts of stories. Poor you S&D is bad enough at any time but on Holiday seems a million times worse. Had that once in Penang and it turned out to be salmonella, had it for about 2 months on and off, just terrible, it came from of all things freshly squeezed orange juice!! cant be too careful can you.

Hi Izzyb50 - I spent just over two glorious weeks in Bali and it would certainly be right at the top of my destinations to be repeated. The Balinese people are a gentle, kind and considerate nationality who suffered hugely after the Balinese bombings and who have spent years trying to get tourism back to where it was prior to that.
I'm afraid that the world over, buffet food attracts all sorts of risks as the food is out there for hours, under lights, in the heat etc., but if you go to a restaurant you can really be sure of very fresh cooked to order meals. Ditto with the mostquitos - part of the "charm!" of going to a warmer climate. Try having lunch at a "Warang" which is the local Balinese eating house - fantastic value for awesome dishes.
We hired a fantastic driver for the time that we were there (could possibly get his name and number if you want) who took us on brilliant day trips - to Ubud, Elephant Riding and to very special beaches which you are unlikely to be able to get to from Nusa without a driver, although I am not sure if your hotel will provide this facility.
Shopping is brilliant and we never felt threatened or intimidated in any way - as I say, if there is one destination that we would love as a family to return to, it would be Bali and I am quite envious of your forthcoming trip..... no make that VERY envious.
Enjoy and travel safely. Feel very free to PM for more information if there is anything that I can do to help.
Racey.
