How do you store your shoes?
      #416412 - 04/07/2009 14:10

Ideas please for storing shoes.

I don't want to revamp my bedroom at the mo so am not thinking of fitted wardrobe methods.

I find they are not easy to find when loose in the bottom of the wardrobe, ends up a jumble of odd shoes.

I've always kept the shoe boxes and kept them in the spare room. I was finding I forget what shoes I have so photographed each pair and stuck the colour piccie on the outside of the box. This has been quite good as easy to see all the colours and styles. However, the boxes keep falling over as they are not all the same size and it looks a bit of a mess.

I had wondered about buying a load of the see thro boxes I've seen advertised.

Anyone got any suggestions?

I did the photo on the shoe box method but took it one step further and went to the shoe shop for the boxes, so had more of the same size. Then covered them in lovely wall paper.

Sad, really, Obviously I have too much time. But they do look great.

If you get the bought ones make sure they open at the front - so much easier to get shoes in and out. I think Lakeland do them.

Not really, I store mine in all the boxes they came as you say, though some I have didn't come in boxes, M&S etc, and I have an awful habit of taking them off,not bothering to look for the box and flinging them in the bottom of one of the wardrobes, then only being able to find one when I want them !!

My only other suggestion would've been the plastic boxes, which I have thought of and you can get job lots on e-bay,

Not much use to you I'm afraid, If you have as many pairs of shoes and boots as I have, there doesn't seem much option without a ready made wardrobe just for them !

Sometimes I think I should cull them, but not so easy, I haven't worn my heeled court shoes since my Mum died 6 years ago, but I might go to another funeral, I wear kitten heels most of the time so why do I have flat boots, well it might snow and so it goes on, I only add cheap ones now and always 'cos their cute, but it still adds to the pile, Emelda Marcos here I am !!!

I have a low shelf in my wardrobe, shoes under, shoes over then keep the flipflops together in a shoe box. However I have run out of space and asked OH to add another shelf, this was at Christmas and I was told it was a 'summer job' - I am of course still waiting, if I push it he will say I have too many shoes. I don't like the boxes, I like to open the door and gaze at my shoes....

You've all made me feel quite ashamed with all your lovely organised shoe storage Mine are all in a muddled up smelly heap in the bottom of the hall cupboard - takes me ages to find a pair when I'm going out

Don't feel ashamed Oilsa, I wore all those when I was working and needed some organisation, Since I've been home, I've worn one pair all winter and one all summer so far, so why do I need so many and I have bought 3 pairs his summer and live in one !!!!

Me should be ashamed !

What do you do with knee length boots mine keep falling over despite being stuffed with tissue. Shoes in boxes except M&S ones which are all on one shelf. Intend to cull them this winter when clear out the wardrobe. If not worn for 2 years out they go!!

You mean you store shoes??

No, really, most of my shoes are on shoe storage thingy from Lakeland at the bottom of the wardrobe, really good ones are stored in boxes for special occassions.

I use the see through boxes too from Lakeland plus some are in normal boxes. This is really sad as I am not really a shoe person but I lined them all up the other evening (obviously bored) and took a photo of them, wedges together etc. This way when I need to know what pair of shoes I need to wear I can look at the photocopy!!! Sooooo sad

I used to use shoe boxes, and label each one - boring work shoes, tarty party, pretty pink...

Then I bought some lovely revolving shoe trees, each one holds 18 pairs of shoes -I've got 2 trees, but I do love my shoes and look after them, so it's not as extravagant as it sounds.

But I miss my shoe boxes, so all new shoes will now be boxed, and I'll retire the shoe trees eventually

I have shoe racks built into the bottom of the wardrobe, so it is easy to find my shoes. All my shoes and boots have their own trees. I have a rule one in, one out. When I buy new shoes I do take an old pair to the shoe recycling bin and no, I have never had second thoughts about any of the recycled shoes.

I have mine in the plastic see through boxes.....the draw variety......They stack so there is about three/four draws to a stack and have them all in the box/dressing/ironing room.....

I found Ikea....B&Q....and Wilkinsons very good for price and sizes.....as my boots needed to go into the bigger draws....

Hope some of the ideas help Ponche...

I have clear plastic stacking pigeon hole type things from the Holding Company. Each one holds either one pair of high heels, or two pairs of flatties/kitten heels. I have them stacked on the shelf in my wardrobe, and another stack under the bed. They sell them individually but also in a pack of six with a plastic lid so you can have them out of the wardrobe and keep them relatively dust free.

Mazl, I have some boot trees which keep my knee boots upright - you can buy them at John Lewis or many heel bars and shoe shops also sell them.

Thanks for all your great replies.

I love the idea of covering the boxes with paper but realise I still won't be able to see what I've got. In fact I saw on a website some lovely boxes covered in paper showing loads of pretty shoes - very tempted.

I've looked at the plastic box idea, even found some in mauve.

From your comments seems like front opening ones are best.

I'm determined to count the shoes tomorrow, make an order and have the boxes filled by next weekend - another job to tick off the to do list

I bought a special cupboard from Argos but they keep slipping off and are in a bit of a muddle. The shoe holders from Ikea are brilliant - depending on how many shoes you have. You attach it to the bar in the wardrobe and it just hangs down. Got one for OH. Needless to say, he doesn't fill all the boxes

I have to admit that the ones I'm not wearing are slung into the bottom of the wardrobe!

Clear boxes that I bought on the Internet. You can get two pairs of shoes in each box too. Easy to find a pair and the wardrobe keeps tidy.
