When my Son joined the Military Police he met up with a really nice lad. They have remained friends ever since and he has always been known as my ' Adopted Son'.

He left the UK on Wednesday to go to Afghanistan. Of course I am very concerned.

He is now married with two lovely children. Will be making sure I go up and see them very often while he is away.

It seems inexplicable to us as mums, but apparently soldiers actually look forward to getting to the scene of the action....!

With my fellow mum's hat on, I jhust hope your 'adopted son' comes home safely to his family and friends.

I'm sure his wife is glad to know that you are 'around' to call on as necessary, if her nerves get too jumpy.

Best Julie

I know the feeling! My OH went to Iraq a couple of years ago to assist with setting up and training the Iraqi police force. I was worried sick but he thoroughly enjoyed himself. He was armed and thoroughly thrilled when there was any kind of incident. can't say I felt the same. You have to appreciate that your adopted son is probably doing something he enjoys and the hairier the better!! Fingers crossed and thoughts with his family

yes it is a very scary time. My oh did 4 months in Basrah - very scary time for us. All you can do is be there for his family. they will really appreciate it.
