Hello Ladies
Here was I minding my own business cycling slowly along a path which was fairly wide and cyclists are allowed on it too (sign there) when out walks this woman in front of me (she must have seen me) with her dog and one of this stretchy extra long leads. So the lead was right stretched across the path preventing me from passing her. I dont like to ring the bell as I think it a bit rude, so I quietly and politely said Excuse me please,,,,anyway with that she barely moved for me and retorted back 'YOU SHOULD BE ON THE ROAD NOT HERE !' I was so taken aback, you know what its like when you are least expecting it and dont have an answer lol. Anyway I cycled past saying 'Oh no I would be lethal on the roads' and said it with a smile and still politely. She glared back and said 'WELL YOU SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO RIDE A BIKE THEN !' I then couldnt help myself as I felt annoyed by this point shouting back 'DONT BE SO RUDE !' but it fell on deaf ears and she just carried on walking.
Why are some people like this ? and cant even blame it on the hot sunshine - there isnt any here today !!
Sue x

Some people are like that. They like to cause trouble and maybe draw a bit of attention to themselves. Don't even think about it any more. You were inthe right. Don't let a rude ignorant woman ruin the rest of your day.

Shame you didn't have scythe things on your bike wheels (like chariots did) Lillie and then you could have cut the lead. Honestly live and let live I say.

What a rude lady - she obviously isn't very happy with her life so she wants to upset everyone else. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day and don't meet any more nasty ladies!!

Hi Lillie, as a keen cyclist myself i know exactly what you mean! I am always aware of other path users when i have to cycle on the path, but its the Dog Walkers that are the most annoying - most of them are lovely lovely people and look out for the cyclist & dog alike but occassionally you get the odd annoying one that does exactly what you describe.. one day a jogger deliberately ran into a lady walking a dog "because her and her dog were in the way" I had a go at him and he just shouted "mind your own business" i was so shocked both at me saying something and him being rude enough to comment like that i just shut up and carried on cycling!...
all we ever ask is a little consideration and respect for the other person.. Im only 38 and even I realise that there is a definite lack of respect for anyone else in the air lately.

Hi Sue, I really hate those extending leashes, they are so dangerous. I have found that where I live a number of people walk along pavements with these leashes extended right out and make no attempt to reel them in when they see you, so you end up having to step over the bloomin things!! I thought they were just for letting the dogs run about in fields, I may be wrong. I dont mind the dogs, but think some of the owners could do with some training!! Sue, you are just too nice, you are going to have to start being cross, its no good!! June xx

A few years back I saw a dog wander around a corner, across the pavement and onto a zebra crossing. Traffic stopped for it. The dog stopped. Only then did I realise that the dog was on the end of an extending lead and the owner was just around the corner having a good natter. Only when someone got out of a car and got the womans attention did she reel the dog in!
Those leads should only be used when the owner has passed a proficiency test! And a cycling one too!!!

I hate those bloody extendable leads, it is normally dog owners who have no control of their dogs who use them.
don't let that rude woman spoil your day

Some people just don't seem to be able to resist. I remember once I parked my car, the two people either side hadn't left my much space so I parked as best I could in the space (as you do). When I returned a man berated me on my bad parking.. Naturally by then the bad parkers had moved off and it did look like I couldn't park within the lines but it wasn't my fault. Would he shut up................. no, just went on and on about women drivers.

I have been calmed and reassured by something said to me by one of the people on this forum - "Some people just wake up angry". No point in trying to excuse the woman, or trying to understand her - she woke up angry and you were in line - probably only one of many.
I wouldn't like to be her dogs - would you?
