Hello everyone I have been in Paris for a few days with Mr F. (researching for the FF of course!) and whilst we ate out, I have been observing the Frenchwomen in Paris, how they eat and how much they eat.
What did I notice?
They seldom eat alone, they are usually with friends or OH and chat a lot. They eat only one course, they eat slowly, chew thoroughly and always leave something on their plates. They drink water or just one glass of wine and finish the meal with a coffee and usually eat the one square of wrapped chocolate which comes with the coffee.
In fact, they seem to follow PMK rules..........
Take care everyone Foxie

Afternoon Foxie, I've always admired the lengths to which you are willing to go in the service of FF research! I hope you and Mr F had a great time.
Mr Vee has a French colleague who is very serious about his wine, but if they have a meal together this chap only ever has one glass. I can remember when we were first married and used to go to France on holiday we'd order a bottle of wine on the first night and finish it on the second, as did almost everyone else. I often find nowadays that I am satisfied with one course if I'm eating out. Now if I could just be satisfied with one glass of wine!
I think the PMK rules can be summed up as "Eat like a thin person".
WoodyM, I like their dress sense too.

Thanks Foxie for your intrepid research on our behalf.
I too already only have one course, although If we go out I like to have a starter and a pud, and skip the main course.
Linby I hope your little amber is on the mend, you must have been at the end of your tether, I know I would be.

Hi Linby Sorry to hear about little Amber, I bet you are glad to have her home again. Viral infections are really nasty things.
Jamjams and Sella_Vee we had a wonderful time in Paris thank you, the last time we went was over 30 years ago! We walked and walked and just enjoyed being somewhere different. It was so easy going on the Eurostar, much quicker than the ferry or hovercraft.
I only have 2 courses when I am out too. If I have to have a starter, I will just ask for a side salad with no dressing, as a starter.

An English friend of mine used to spend 6 weeks in France every summer staying with her French friends. They used to put every single part of a chicken in the pot and eat it all ugh! They also spent hours eating every day so think we should be thinking eat like a Parisian ,rather than eat like a French woman, there are lots of big French women about too. Perhaps you need to have another holiday in France, purely for research purposes of course. It's hard work but someones got to do it Lol

The French families I stayed with all had several courses but one course might just be French beans in a dressing. they ate few potatoes and although lots of bread was eaten, they rarely had butter with it. Everyone was slim....
Foxie, next time you should take us with you so we can verify your findings - after all, one investigation might not be enough!

Hi Chickee We went to Galeries Lafayette and there were two floors of handbags (!) I was very restrained and only came back with two for me and one little purse for Miss Foxie.

My French neighbours can't understand why we eat our dinner at night as they always have their biggest meal at lunchtime. My kids get a 3 course lunch at school, always with fruit or salad courses. The other thing they find weird is that we put everything on one plate. They would have a steak on it's own or with just a few potatoes. Always finish with salad.
