Hi rosepetal

OH and I were at a wedding at Lake Como last August - absolutely beautiful place - hotel was on lakeside, as was the 5* hotel where the wedding actually took place. Breathtaking.

We were only there for 3 days and were with lots of other wedding guests so didnt travel too far - they have an excellent ferry that takes about 5 mins to get into Como itself (also lovely) but it does do other trips. It stops at all the main little inlets along the lake.

Have a fab time.

In which town are you renting the villa? We rented a house in Argegno last September.

Villa Carlotta is nearby and has lovely gardens to visit. You can find out more on Google.

Argegno is charming and very well placed in the centre of the lake. You can get to most places on the ferry. Bellagio is very pretty but gets busy with tourists. Isola Comacina is nearby and you can go there for a meal which is supposed to be quite an experience. Villa Carlotta has lovely gardens and a cafe where you can have lunch. Up in the hills there is a restaurant called Locanda Sant' Anna (I think) which is well regarded although we didn't go there. The house we rented had a guestbook where people had made suggestions. On Sundays you can take a paddle steamer around the lake. We enjoyed eating at the restaurant in the piazza on the right hand side if you look from the ferry jetty. There is also a hotel with a lovely setting on the same side as the jetty heading towards Como, but it looked a bit formal. The restaurant of the Hotel Argegno does great pizzas, including takeaways and don't miss the bakery which is up some steps behind the grocers. It's only open in the morning. OH used to walk down from the house each morning for croissants and bread. Lenno, the next town along has a supermarket, and a market once or twice a week. Argegno has a market once a week but it's quite small. Lenno's is much bigger. You can also hire motor boats from the lido in Lenno if you feel like taking one out on the lake. I hope you have a great time.

Hi I am new to this forum, so just having a good read round.. We also have stayed in Argegno, it was fabulous, went for 10 days..Went to Bellagio, Menaggio, Como, went to the village Pigra at the top of the mountains,,drove to Switzerland, you name it we did it. Also spent days in Argegno itself. You must go to Cafe Columbo in the Square, it is brilliant and the restarant next door, it is owned by the same people, and they are all lovely. Try Happy Hour in Columbo, from about 6 pm, its fab, with free food too!! There is a little food shop, stand with your back to the sea, in the square, there is a Gelato shop on the left, then a little clothes shop and a gift shop and straight in front of you is the shop, sells bread meats cheeses, al lot of things. the other little shop that someone mentioned is a bit difficult to find, unless you make your way through the little alleys. You will find the passenger ferries great, they take you from village to village, from Como up to the top, not sure of the name. It is Fabulous!!
