Hello there
Can anyone recommend any good books for a family dealing with Alzheimer's? My husbands Father has just been diagnosed with it and we need to understand what we are up against.
Thanks

So sorry to hear your news,Furball.I can't help with book recommendations but would suggest you look on Amazon as readers do comment about books on there.I 'm also fairly certain that there will be an Alzeimers Support group if you Google for it.That would certainly be the best place to start I would think. Years ago when my mother-in-law's partner was diagnosed with dementia the doctors sent a nurse to visit the house. She was there to look after the needs of my MIL and gave her a large loose leaf file with notes answering every question you could think of including a testimonial from a woman who had been diagnosed and her description of how she lived with it. It was extremely illuminating and helpful. I wonder if this is still available, or maybe it depends where in the country you are.

Hi Furball sorry to hear about your FIL - the Alzheimers Society have a phone in help and advice line which we found very good when both my parents developed dementia at the same time. It was knowing what to expect and how to deal with it that I found so confusing.

Thanks all, we have bought a book for now. My husband has a GP sister and a Nurse sister, so they will no doubt have lots of info already.
