After posting on ideas for Thailand - thank you for your helpful comments, we have decided to hopefully do that trip next year.
I have now booked to go to Italy for our first visit! Did try and book at Limoncello's but she is very very busy, but will definately do a return trip there sometime! I have booked two nights in Florence, and six nights in Tuscany/Umbria. Really looking forward to our first visiit in September, I know that lots of you lovely ladies have posted before about Italy but any tips would be great. Thank you.

Hi Shellseeker,
Fantastic that you are going to Italy.
It is one of my favourite countries, and we had a faboulous holiday there last year.
Totally agree with angellady, be sure to take a mac, as conditions at this time of the year can be questionable, although I have to say we were extremely fortunae, it was hot, and no rain at all.
Tuscany is beautiful, do try to go to Sienna if at all possible, make sure you are feeling extremely energetic though, it is very hilly, but the history and beauty of the place certainly make it a worthwhile place to visit. All of these cities in Italy regardless of what time of the year you visit are always crowded, and Tuscanny will be no exception.
Just enjoy the beauty of the place, sample as much of the cuisine as you can, and get out and about to the places of the beaten track.
Hope you have a great visit.
Plasmo x

Lucky you- Italy is one of my favourite places in all the world!
A bit of a tip - there is SO much mind blowing stuff to see in Florence, you couldn't see all of it in a month probably-so plan your time well in advance. And take comfy walking shoes!!

Shellseeker........I just love Italy, its one of my favourite places. There are lots of lovely places to visit in Tuscany....Sangimino and Volterra are beautiful hilltop towns which are worth a visit but beware they can be very busy during the day but so quiet in the evening. I also love Lucca and Barga........Oh I'm soooooooo jealous. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. Enjoy! Shanti

Thank you from an italian "girl" (more woman than girl I'd say). By the way, as I'll make lots of mistakes, I'll be appreciate if you want to correct them. Unfortunately I can't write as frequently as I want because I write from my office and I'm going to go on holiday anyway. I'll keep in touch and thanks everyone in advance.

We've just come back from Umbria - it was gorgeous. Lovely medieval hill towns, great architecture, art, history and landscapes. Wonderful fresh food too - the best grilled vegetables and salads we've eaten in years.
We stayed at Lake Trasimeno as our base (Castiglione del Lago) and saw Assisi, Montepulciano, Pienza, Orvieto and Gubbio. I would say pace yourself and don't try to see too many sights. We did our visiting in the mornings and then cycled or swam in the afternoons as it was too hot for much else.
Take lots of reasonable clothes as the Italians don't do 'scruffy' --which I usually am on my hols -- and be prepared to take a long time over lunch as the Italians do 'slow' food. If you're not aware, there is also a standard restaurant cover charge of 2 euro per person for 'pane e coperto' which is the linen and bread basket you are brought when you sit down. For two of you, that's nearly £4 before you've even tasted a morsel!

Just to say you will not be disappointed with Italy. I love it, the food, the views, the cities, the architecture, the fashion, the life style, the weather.............
