I've just read Anita Shreve's book "Testimony"
Wondered if anyone else has read it and what they thought of it?

Hi,
Not read that one, but have just finished The Pilot's Wife. Not my usual type of reading matter though. I read it as OH was away and I didn't want to read my usual thrillers in case I got scared in the house on my own. I may try another of hers but Ifound the Pilot's Wife very slow. Maybe that's just my view too.

Not my usual read either but thought I'd give it a go....although I quite enjoyed it,it was a bit of a chore to finish it to be honest!
It was quite a contovertial subject.....even so I found it a bit slow.......
Maybe she's not the author for us!!

No, Anita Shreve is defo not for me either. I have just finished a book called 'Retribution' by Jillianne Hoffman - absolutely brilliant.
I get most of my books at charity shops what about you?

Well a bit diferent for me. I've read the Pilots Wife and Body Surfing and ejoyed them both (the stories were very vaguely interlinked - in so far as the family house used in Body Surfing was the one that the Pilot and his wife used to live in before the accident) I'm sure I'll be giving Testimony a go!

Hi Seaside, Bizibee and Joff,
I love Anita Shreve's books. Some of them are quite slow moving, but very atmospheric. She writes a lot about a particular area in New England. I have just ordered Testimony from Amazon, so when I have read it, I let you know my thoughts.
Joff, the house in The Pilot's Wife and Bodysurfing is in several of her other books (though I can't remember which ones atm!), one is about the original family mentioned in Bodysurfing, and another is set in the 30s.

I wasn't crazy about "Testimony", although I like Anita Shreve. You should try "Light on Snow" - this was my absolute favourite A.S. novel (so far).

The Pilot's wife was the first novel I read by Anita Shreve, and I enjoyed it but preferred Fortune's Rocks and All He Ever Wanted... I thought the way she depicted love and obsession was very convincing.
If you like Anita Shreve's writing, you must read Sue Gee... the English equivalent and better, I think. A bit more quirky in some respects, with the occasional eccentric English character. My favourite is Earth and Heaven, and The Mysteries of Glass is also very good. She is not as widely known as she should be and I recommend her to everybody!

I really like Anita Shreve but haven't read this one. Will have to catch up with it.
Will look up Sue Gee too scottishmags.

I have been recommending Sue Gee to everyone for years!
She's my favourite novelist.
I've also read everything that Anita Shreve has written.
Have you read Reading in Bed, Sue gee's latest?

I really like AS. The only one of her books that I have given up on was Where or When. I just couldn't get into it. I've just got Testimony.

Wow Kate, I've never met anyone else who's heard of her! I worked in a local bookshop for a short while and insisted they stocked her books and used to press them on everyone. I'd love to meet her one day and tell her how I've boosted her sales ...
I've read Reading in Bed but it's not really my favourite. As well as the two I mentioned I liked the slightly quirky ones like Thin Air and The Hours of the Night. Reading in Bed seemed to revert to a more mainstream sort of storytelling style and lose some of the originality I felt.
Did you cry reading Earth and Heaven? Don't want to give too much away for those who haven't read it .. My OH cried too

I was a little disappointed to be quite honest. Interesting and controversial subject looked at from the perspective of many different people. Mike, the head teacher came across as completely void of personality though. Easy to read though, flew through it.
