My son does not have a microchipped passport. Can he still apply online through ESTA. Or will he have to apply to the Embassy? Can anyone advise us? Thank you.

This may help - has a FAQ section - alternatively may be a good idea to ask your local travel agent.

Yes OH didn't know about this till the day before travelling and filled it all in on line. Didn't have to pay anything and it all worked fine.

Hope your son has a good time ColletteH.

Applied on-line when we went to the US at easter - no problems at all. Airline still asked us to fill in green form as previously. May still take time to get through immigration when he arrives because they scan your fingerprints & take your photograph,

Hope your son enjoys his visit

Yes, Breeze, took OH 2.5 hrs to go through immigration cos they take photos of your iris too. OH was just changing planes and they still made him do all this. (I did warn him!)

Hi Colette
are you talking about a machine readable passport with the one line under the photo at bottom of the page ? if so then you can apply on line at esta ..we've just done it and no problem.
