I decided to test one of the supermarket comparison sites to decide whether its cheaper for me to drive to Waitrose just up the road or Sainsburys which is a few miles away.I put in all of the items I would normally buy in a quick shop and lo and behold Waitrose are the cheapest and Sainsburys the most expensive
£39.26 Tesco £38.39 ASDA £43.02 Sainsbury's £37.25 Ocado Click here to view your trolley View Trolley £37.25

Hi, I don't think we have Waitrose in North Wales, is it a southern chain? I am just off to stock up on basics. Going to Aldi as I find them very good for most things especially store cupboard stuff. Also their facial wipes are excellent at 77p. Their green grocery section is improving all the time too. I usually go to Aldi or Lidl first and then if I need something I can't get there I go to Tesco or Asda. These days I don't do a 'big shop' anymore as there are only the two of us. Also where we live there is a fabulous butchers as I don't buy much supermarket meat.

Hi Suzie
My hairdresser tells me that all the time and has logged me in to get £10 off for the next 3 shops, I didn't really believe her and haven't used it.
She pays Waitrose £8 pm for unlimited deliveries and has 2 a week. We did do a check of Morrisons own cat food v Waitrose and Waitrose was cheaper and apparently on-line they do loads of offers not available in the shop. Once you have taken an offer up, they only ever charge you that amount she says. Her coffee is gorgeous which is what set us talking of it.
Maybe I'm being blinkered and should try Waitrose on-line......
I suppose they all have to be competitive these days.

Another thing Ocado who deliver waitrose items is the only on supermarket who guarantee to deliver to flats with no lifts, none of the others will do it !

Hi Suzie We do most of our shopping at Waitrose because they are the only supermarket nearby without driving for miles to the next town. We have found that they are just as cheap if not cheaper than the others for lots of things and because we have their credit card we save loads by collecting points on everything we buy and being sent vouchers. A lot of my friends when I was at work insisted that Sainsbury's or Tesco were cheaper and refused to set foot inside the door, so I don't know how they could judge and some of them drove literally miles from shop to shop to get the cheapest prices. Do they get free petrol??

That cpmparison is really helpful.Thank you. I love Waitrose but always assumed it was the most expensive. We have Waitrose, Sainsburys, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and Asda reasonably near. I did shop at Sainsburys when we first moved here, but found I spent £20 more per week than at Asda, and there are only two of us. I will have another look at Waitrose.

I use Tesco because I walk there, I had to start walking to get my blood pressure down so I shop daily. Go to our village to the butcher, library and for a change, however do a car shop every 10 days for toilet rolls, heavy stuff etc. We do have the wine delivered from Tesco (when we run out). To go to a Waitrose, Sains, Morrs etc I would have to drive past a Tesco......Dont really look at the prices but I am saving on petrol, plus the blood pressure is normal and the bingo wings have reduced!! Couldnt do it with kids, however son back from Uni next week so all my good intentions will go out the window.

Wow.. that is really surprising because I find I spend much more if I go to Waitrose. Maybe because they have so much nice tempting stuff though, I'm not making a direct comparison based on a shopping list.
Bizibee, it's the supermarket linked to John Lewis, was in the south and in the last few years have opened a few branches in the north, in south Manchester and Cheshire that I know of. Usually much quieter and more pleasant to shop in than the bigger supermarkets

Waitrose is part of the John Lewis group.
It is really the best supermarket. Their foods are really something else.
I moved from England to Wales. The month I moved they put up a new Waitrose.
Miles to my nearest one here.
