Can anyone recommend any self catering places in North Cornwall suitable for families ideally with plenty of entertainment for teenagers?

Hello Chocaholic! Have taken my 2 daughters to Cornwall a couple of times, but they were slightly younger then. We stayed in Polzeath at the Polzeath Beach Holiday Park http://www.polzeathbeachholidaypark.com/ - Its a site right on the beach, and a great beach for surfing/bodyboarding. If you have teenagers and they are into this, hopefull this will keep them entertained during the day. If you think its too quiet I would head northwards to Bude, where its a bit busier and I'm sure there is more evening entertainment.

Thanks for the link desperatehousewife. I used to spend every summer surfing at Polzeath and haven't been for 30 years!
I am going to ask OH if we can get down there this Autumn.
BTW, did you know that the poem "For the Fallen" was written by Laurence Binyon on the cliffs at Polzeath in 1914 (I think).
The 4th stanza is so well known...
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. "

I spent a lovely week under canvas in Polzeath by myself. A time to walk, read, drink beer and eat pasties. This shot was taken on the first day of the holiday. I walked from Polzeath north round Pentire Point and then Port Quin. From there onto Port Issac all along the coastal path. The walk was about 10 miles and I caught a bus back to Polzeath nursing blisters. The rest of the week was great. Although the weather was not great I saw sun everyday and I never tire of the Cornish coast and the sea crashing along the shore. __________________________________________________ Term Life Insurance tennessee adoption attorney

Your description has made me want to get back there asap!!
Did you get an eery feeling at Port Quinn? I love it but I have always felt an "atmosphere" there.
Why don't you pop over to the "Your Lives" forum and introduce yourself? We love to greet new members....and practise posting our "Welcome" pictures!!!!!

Hi- when you say 'North Cornwall' do you mean the north coastline (ie, the Atlantic), or do you mean the northern section of Cornwall?
The Atlantic coastline is very long, and has several distinct areas and centres - did you have any particular one in mind? I would, in any case, seek to avoid Newquay, but on the other hand the very reasons I would recommend avoiding it are probably what would attract your teens to it! (It's very popular for post-A level no-parent holidays... hmm.)
If you mean 'northern cornwall' then I'd say that stretches roughly from Padstow to Morwenstow, though some might say from Tintagel to Morwenstow. Apart from Padstow itself, the main (only!) coastal resort is Bude, which I can definitely recommend. It's medium size, and I think a pretty good balance of 'quiet' and 'lively'. The beaches are very walkable from the town (ten minutes max), but there is no 'promenade'. There are two beaches, both are good for kids and surfing, and there is an tidal swimming pool which is good when the tide is too low to swim (DO NOT SWIM WHEN THE RED FLAG IS FLYING YOU WILL DROWN).
There's quite a lot of s-c accommodation in the town itself, ie, you wouldn't need a car once you are there, but even more if you have a car. Plus you can then get to other nearby beaches as well.
Whether it would keep teens amused depends really on whether they like surfing/sea bathing. There is some nightlife, but not huge amounts (nothing, thank god, to compare to Newquay). There are also quite a lot of outfits there that run not just surfing lessons, but also things like canoing and coasteering, biking, that sort of thing.
If they like clothes shopping, there are some not bad 'youff' shops there stuffed with O'Neil, Rip Curl, etc etc etc.
Note, there is no cinema - the nearest one is inland a few miles away, and needs a car.
Julie.

that's a thought Shanta, take the teenagers on a walk around the Cornish coastline. i only did port Quinn to Port Isaac and that was bad enough (though did walk back overland to Port Quinn.
