Has anyone been? My husband is talking about going next year, with or with out me! Trouble is I'm not keen on long haul flights and my son has announced he wont go as he has developed a fear of flying ( I have previosly posted about that). Plus it is unknown to me and I do like faminuality. So I know I have trouble brewing, as once he has made his mind up, both of them , in this case, there will be no compromise.

Cuba is absolutely wonderful. Havana is one of the most magical places I have been too. The best time to visit is Feb to May as the weather is perfect then.
Most of the hotels are like international resorts so It is not too "foreign". Providing you do not fly with Cubana you will really enjoy it.

We had a lovely holiday in Cuba we stayed in the keys cant remember how to spell it something like quayo Guillamo. It was across a bridge on the peninsular. Very quiet but you could do excursions We went to a lake where we we into the mangroves by boat to look at wild life also visited a defunct sugar factory. everywhere we went we were greeted with music. We didnt visit Havana as it was too far but you could split your holiday and spend a few days there if you wished. The hotel ( Iberostar?) was good all inclusive. Fantastic for cocktails! they were a bit Lacking in some areas Towels werent wonderful and they needed more sunbeds but it is a few years since we went.Outside of the resorts people are quite poor and life is very different to what we're used to. Some people take school and medical supplies Basic ones to give away to schools and clinics in the villages. The sea is so wonderful let us know if you decide to go.

We went at Easter and flew with First Choice. The flight was 8+ hours, but they have good seat pitch, and seat back TVs for everyone so I didn't find the flight uncomfortable at all on the way out. Coming back you fly overnight and I am hopeless about sleeping on planes so I was tired when I landed, but OH managed to sleep like a baby. They gave everyone a pillow and blanket.
We loved Cuba, and wanted to go before it changed too much.

Cuba is fabulous, I was there in February, did a tour, loved it all -Havana is AMAZING!!!! Hope you aren't flying with Cubana -ok going out, loads of room but coming back we were combined with the France flight and were flown to Orly instead of gatwick then taken across Paris in a coach to Charles de Gaulle airport then to Heathrow, on top of a tiring night flight that was just to much!

hi
I went about 2 years ago, flew Virgin and stayed in Havana and Varadero. We went in october, dry season is november to april, so we had a couple of exotic thunderstorms but apart from that its about 30 degrees all year round. Havana is being renovated as much of it fell down. We tried all the bars for the best mohito, the best one was the one we shared at the airport to finish up our currency. We loved sitting on the terrace of the Hotel Inglaterra drinking ice cold beer watching the american cars go by.We also hired a horse drawn carriage for 2 hours and Federico and his horse Picasso showed us all the sights. We ended up in a bar Hemingway used to frequent and took a drink of water outside for the horse. Go all inclusive at Varadero, the beach is fantastic and the staff couldn`t do enough for us. Next time I go I shall stay at Parque Central in Havana which is central for sightseeing but has a rooftop pool and the Breezes Varadero where we stayed last time.

Hi Lucky Legs and Everyone,
It seems a lot has improved in Cuba, since we went there in 1992, I swore I would never return, we stayed in the only five star hotel, near Trinidad, the food was dreadful, the hotel was lovely, the people were lovely, but spent half of my time in tears, as the people just didnt seem to have any of the material things that we take for granted.
It is great to hear that everything seems to have improved nowadays, which is good for the country's travel industry.
If you go I do hope you have a wonderful holiday, and enjoy the friendliness of the Cuban people. Dont forget to let us know.
Plasmo x

Have been about 7 times and love it but each time I see changes and it is becoming more European. You used to be able to walk down every street and hear live music through the windows and often just join them, now it is chart music - I suppose they now want what we have. I have driven right down from Havana to Santa Lucia. Recommend a couple of days in Havana especially Hotel Nacional - lovely gardens and vista and then go further down the coast. Personally I wouldn't choose Varadero - went there last year but only because it was the nearest main place to Havana and because I was going to be by myself I didn't want to travel too far. Varadero is not Cuba and lacks the character of other places. Apart from a quick visit to Trinidad wouldn't recommend staying there either - too touristy.
