Slowness of forum
      #366108 - 31/03/2009 23:23

I have been having a lot of difficulty with the forum over the last week. When I hit the Active Topics each time it is taking approx 10-12 seconds to come up and sometimes it is taking so long it hangs. I am also getting a message coming saying that a script on the page is slowing down my computer and this is when I am just reading the posts. This only started happening at the weekend. Have just been on and hit the expire cookies in case that was causing a problem but it is still as bad as ever. I can see some people are not having a problem and a lot of others seem to be the same as me. Hope you can help. Thank you.

Hi aec13cat, same here up the coast, so bad I have just been lurking as it takes so long to post. I keep getting a white screen underneath the titles at the top, I thought it might be something to do with the settings on this laptop as I am just getting used to it, but tonight I've got my full screen again.

Still its not bad enough to stop me altogether.

Me too!....my OH says the band width is not big enough for the amount of use this site gets.W and H are fairly small fry in the scheme of things and can probably only afford a smallish band width.
Frustrating!!

I've been kicked off several times. Most annoyingly when I've nearly finished typing a long post, and also in the middle of the night.

Very frustrating.

I agree it is very slow at the moment, have learnt my lesson with the posts though, I got fed up with loosing them, so I now type into a word document and then copy and paste onto the website, if it gets lost in cyberspace - I dont have to think about what I have just typed.

I am hoping with this going to the Website feedback they will be able to get it sorted for us all. Bobcat mine also goes to the pure white page at times and then next thing it is back on track again. All very strange.

I can't log on every day; but look forward to the opportunity when I can. It's just so disappointing when I get the opportunity to catch up with my forum friends that I can't; this site is so slow that it's unusable. It isn't even bringing up the proper menus and I have to close site down and try again. Totally unfeasible. Such a shame.

Like you Joff, I cannot post every day, but the last couple of days have been really bad. My password has not been letting me on the site and it has been so slow as to be unusable. This is about the fifth time I have tried today to get into the site, and it has taken ages. It is reallya offputting, am thinking of joining another site which would be a pity as I am just starting to recognise people!! June x

I have only joined recently but have given up any thought of posting several times as everything is soo slow. This is a really good site and I really hope things will improve as I would like to use it more.

I can't believe a magazine of this size cannot resolve its IT problems. I had similar problems with another forum being incredibly slow like this one, and they managed to resolve theirs in a little over a week by changing to another server. Personally I don't think enough is being done about it and again as a new user I don't think they care much either and have stopped trying to log on as much as I would like and if it carries on will have to give up using the forum as it takes up too much time.
