Well then, the weekend is upon us so for those of us who are lucky not to have to work this weekend, what are your plans for moving that little bit more? You don't have to go "hell for Leather" just something gentle and enjoyable.
I am planning to walk round an indoor shopping mall today(it is still better than sitting at home!!) and then tomorrow I am planning to walk on the beach.I am looking forward to both ..much more than the gym!

Hi Blossom, i'm not going out today, but I plan to jump up and down in front of the telly with the wii fit for comapny, i'll probably do about 40 - 50 mins, but it is easy to get carried away with all the mini games. All the money you saved by cancelling your Gym membership should be invested in something you really want at the mall today!
Have fun

Hi Jennifer,
I used to pay for the gym by direct debit, so when i went into the bank to cancel it, I just opened another account and now I am putting the money away.It will be put towards our annual family holiday.
I am now really looking forward to hunting out new (and cheap. ) ways of beconing more active.
One thing I know is that extreme physical exertion can actually do more harm than good..it also provides little enjoyment for me.

Hi Blossom, I've not made any real plans for the weekend but 2 DVDs that I bought on Ebay have arrived. They are Colleen Nolan's Disco Dancing and Lorraine Hall's fitness DVd's so will probably try them out. I'll also be wearing my pedometer to encourage me to keep going. One of the joys of my nightly walks with my OH is we've adopted a family of foxes. We have been walking at the edge of a wood and when we saw a fox OH whistled and it came trotting over to us,2 others also appeared.Last night we bought dog biscuits and some kidneys that had been reduced in Tescos,we got to the same spot and they came to be fed. They are beautiful such an unusual colour, soft cream rather than red and must be finding things difficult in this cold weather. My gym membership money may be going on food for the local wild life. Enjoy your shopping trip Blossom and your wii fit ,Jennifer. Decx

Hello Blossom and everyone
Yesterday was a real revelation - my first day with the ped and I was shocked. For that, I thank you all for suggesting the pedometer and opening my eyes and encouraging me to think of ways to move about more...
Mr A is poorly so I'm housebound today fussing over him. Probably no opportunity to go for a walk but I hope to get out and walk like crazy tomorrow.

Good afternoon girls,
My new pedo arrived today, that was a surprise, I didnt expect it until Monday or Tuesday.
Because Ive spent half of the day in bed, coz I was working last night, I have been cheated out of a full days stepping, but I can assure you I have done about 200,000 steps at work last night, my usual 12 hour shift turned into a 13, and I never stopped all night.
Pluss its going to take me the rest of the day setting it up, I think I will wait until OH gets in, my brain is a bit frazzled at the moment!

Like you Bloss, I will be on the beach, but Ainsdale. I like just driving straight on to the sand, opening the back door and let the pack out. 7.30, no-one else around, brilliant. Will fit some dancing in either tonight or tomorrow afternoon, depending when Mr Chilla is out. Hoping tomorrow because I wanted to take it easy today after the cold - feel really cream crackered at the minute!

Before Christmas, when I was being a good girl, , I used to do an exercise or dance DVD folowed by half an hour of Pilates. I do enjoy it but it's a bit cold for that kind of thing at the moment, so I'm going to be hula hooping and jogging on the Wii Fit, with a bit of yoga thrown in for good measure.

Taz..i think a 30 minute brisk walk is fine...the purpose of this thread is to encourage people to move just that little bit more...it does not have to be vigorous exercise. We are all of differing abilities on this forum, so it is not a competition!!
Please join us!I am intending puting a main post on this thread on a Sunday evening or Monday morning and people can comment on their goals for the week or their successes from the previous week.I have lots of books on yoga, gentle exercise and basic holistic well being, so I might post stuff from them....as well as any ideas that come to mind!

Sella - Vee..please don't class yourself as "good" if you do exercise and "bad" if you don't.I know it looks like I am nit picking, but by labelling yourself as good or bad in relation to exercise sets up all sorts of guilt trips !!!You are just you, if you happen to do more activity one day then you are still the same person!!
(do I make sense or am i just tried and writing a load of psycho babble?!!)

I'm with you Blossom - since your thread last week both the OH and I have reaslised how little exercise we get and have been doing something about it. Despite a cold, OH actually suggested a walk this morning! Peds on, we set off in the chilly but bright, sunny Sunday morning and got back feeling all the better for it. But how come he clocked up about 300 more steps than me? Still, I've already doubled up on my score for all of Friday so I'm a happy bunny. A little bit more every day would be my initial aim...

Thats the point, Ashbee...a LITTLE bit more moving everyday..thinking of new ways to move more.I am aware that there are somepeople on the forum who cannot or don't want to walk outside for one reason or another.
Moving more could be a few yoga moves , or even basic stretches first thing in the morning, getting up to change the TV instead of using the remote, legs lifts whilst watching the TV, walking up and downstairs in the ad breaks....or it could be walking for an extra ten minutes or extra number of steps a day!!
Sory if I am teaching some of you to suck eggs...but I think every little idea helps!

Afternoon everyone. Yesterday was a bit of a non moving day for me, I had to go into work for the day and I was under 5000 steps for the day. Today I have been out for a lovely walk, my OH did not want to come but my YS did. Suprisingly no i pod in the ear and we had a good talk on the way around, it was the most sustained conversation for about a fortnight!

I thought it was really mild Bloss. Mind you I'm from Yorkshire, they make us tough up there.
better get the tin hat now she knows I'm from the 'other' side of the Pennines.

LOL Chilla...white rose country!!
Where are you from?I have fond memories of both Leeds and Sheffield.
...the beach itself was cold today , but it was warmer in the dunes.
I was really really sad to find out that 80 red squirrels (but probably more in their dreys) have died from squirrel pox.i knew the numbers were dwindling there but didn't realise it was so bad .I was actually choked reading the notice board.

Pah, that's not real Yorkshire, born in the capital (York) and lived in a vriety of locations in North Yorkshire.
Every time either Heartbeat (used to live up the road from Goathland) or All Creatures Great and Small (Aunty lived next door to the house they used for the vet's surgery) it went like this. '.....Isn't that the road from X to X......Oh, look, your mam and I used to go for a picnic up there....oooh, isn't that Farmer Xs place....' and on and on.
that's really sad about the squirrels. There's not that many places where they still have a colony. Did it say if there was a cure or are they developing a resistance?

We once stayed in that area (Goatland), but it was the time of foot and mouth and we couldn't do any walking, so we just spent time in the pub!
I had a boyfriend once (one of many) and his parents lived in Haxby.I love York..we were there in the half term holidays for the "Ghost walk"...hilarious!!We visited the Minster, but refused to pay the extortinate amount they wanted to let us into the main part..so we sat in the side chapel and reflected....lovely place.
but anyway ..hows ya movin an shakin going?!

As you know the beach walk was done and I've got some bike lights and some tips on cycle maintenance, (see other move1) post.
I was absolutely wiped out on Friday with the cold I had, so I've been on half steps over the weekend, but back on form this morning.
