FASHION COMEBACK
      #298715 - 06/01/2009 16:23

Hi Everyone,

Thinking back to when you were teenageers, 50s,60s,70s etc, what piece of clothing, or fashion accessory would you like to make a comeback?

I daresay we would look pretty strange at our ages now wearing our favourites, but just for a reminisce.

Mine would be Mary Quant brightly coloured boots, they were waterproof, and Biba dresses.

What about you?

Sadly, I've seen the fashions come back and fade again and I can't say I was impressed the second time around. Kept asking myself if I really wore such odd stuff. Now, if I could have my teenage figure back, that would be a whole different thing...

Loons. Loved them. Had lots of pairs in different colours.

And I would still wear them now if you could still get them!!

I wish it was fashionable to wear hats more often, as I love them, all kinds for all occasions. Always loved these 1920's cloche ones like Clara Bow is wearing here.

oops just realised you asked for things we wore when we were teenagers, well i wasn't a teenager in the 1920's LOL but would still love some of these old styles to be fashionable

Dizee,

Is that an authentic photo from the 20s?, I love the boots, and agree the hat is lovely. They were so feminine, but I would look horrendous in one, as I do every hat that ever sits on my head!!!

I once owned a lovely dark brown velvet coat in the 70s, I would like one now but don't seem to find one I like, with a bit of embroidery on it if I'm being specific. I see them on celebs in the newspapers but they probably bought them in London (the typical high street doesn't offer things like that).

And I owned a stripey coat, I loved that too. And I loved my friend's big coat, if I remember correctly, was made from heavy curtain material (sort of) in green.

I think fashion lacks personality now, it's so bland - each shop is the same.

My daughter went to a 60s to 70s party in december.

She tryed ebay and the bidding was to high, went round loads of shops. She did get a nice Biba dress and white boots.

But didnt look as good as back in the old days. I liked the mini and Ozzy Clark dresses. OH! happy days.

yes it is a picture of Clara Bow who was a silent film star in the 1920's, I think she was the first person to be called the "it girl", and the cartoon character Betty Boop was based on her. I've never seen any of the films just some pictures like this, and read a little bit about her, I just love that look...... and that hat would be great for a bad hair day LOL

I agree gyp. fashion today seems all the same, it does lack personality.

This thread has got me thinking, there are some suits & dresses I wore back in the 70/80s that I'd buy again and they'd suit me - I'm 2 stone heavier but they'd still suit me. The dresses had arms, were made of nice material not that jersey stuff they make wrap dresses from these days. It's so disheartening to trudge the high street looking for flattering outfits and you just don't find them. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

As an aid to get back into pre-baby shape, my OH bought me a Biba pale blue jumbo corduroy coat and mini-skirt - was gorgeous (1967). Friend gave me an Ossie Clark dress which no longer fitted her - was white crepe and gorgeous - wish I still had it now. Talking of hats - those felt ones with big brims and cut out holes were "fab"... Those boots in the Clara Bow look are fantastic.

Mollymandy,

I still have two Ossie Clark dresses, very well worn, but would never part with them, a friend of mine's teenage daughter has been trying to persuade me to give her them for ages, but she has failed. Bought them from Bibas in Kensington High Street.

I loved a long black coat with fake fur trim sort of cossack style that I wore with bright red patent knee high boots and a red felt hat similar to a trilby. Girls I was friendly with dressed in their own way - today I feel many girls are clones. I guess mass production has its part to play. Bring back indiviuality.

In the 80's I used to love Laura Ashley dresses and had quite a few. So feminine and pretty!

I used to wear.... wait for it..... suede hotpants, long-fringed suede waistcoat and knee-hi white wetlook laceup boots and also platform/wedge shoes -aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!! Very late 60s/early 70s. Then came the mini skirt!!

Dont think I would be brave enough to do that now, but they were good in their day :-)

Cupcake - I also remember Loons!

Each shops the same apart from some of the big stores.

I loved Laura Ashley to Cuppie, and I remember I bought a lovely LA green, very long coat with a ruffled neck, it was made of cordroy, can you believe that?
