I posted this on the Flabulous Forummer thread but think it deserves a thread of it's own.
The benefits of exercise are well known, it lowers your heart rate, helps you to lose weight and is very good for your mental health...it increases endorphins which are feel good chemicals in the body.My degree is in Health Sciences and research hasn't changed that much over twenty or so years.
I would like to start a thread in which we share ways in which we have "moved more " and maybe how it has made a difference to how we feel , our motivation etc.Research shows that we need to do 30 mins of ex a day, but this can be broken up into ten minute bursts of fairly vigorous bursts of exercise.
I intend to post regularly and would love it if others would join in!!
By "Moviing More" I mean as well as formal exercise say at the gym , or pool, to include other ways you have moved more!!(hmm the mind boggles!!)
Hope you will join me!!

Hi Bloss
I'm with you on this. I joined 'Curves' in Nov, you do a 30 min circuit, and then your outa of there, I really enjoy it, and it works for me, even tho i have missed 10 days over christmas, i will be back Monday, back into routine. I am also going to buy a DVD, Cammilla Dallerup has bought one out which looks fun, so may give it a go. I will start wearing my pedometer to seee how many steps i am doing.

I also hope to do some fitness DVDs.

I have arthritis which makes it a bit difficult especially during flareups. I joined a gym recently and started aqual classes and hoping to progress to cycling soon. I've put so much weight on since getting diagnosed 3 years ago and I know shifting the weight will help, diets just don't work for me and I know exercise is the way to go. Just need to find forms of exercise that aren't going to hurt my joints.

Hi Bloss
Since christmas I have started doing 2 mile walks which at the moment take me about 40 minutes.I have several different routes so I don`t get bored. Exercise definitely makes you feel better.

I'm aiming to do half an hour's walking as many days as I can. I really enjoy walking, it's just a question of getting into a regular routine. It's very easy for other things to get in the way if you let them!!

I did a five km santa dash back in December, which has motivated me to do another 5km run in March ( I reckon if I can go out training on a cold winters evening, i can do it in the spring!)
Sue Ellen..does swimming help as it is not weight bearing.
Bibble...I did yoga for a few years ..I really loved it.My gym does a few classes a week so I might try it again.
When I think how active I used to be, there is no wonder I haveput on so much weight...I use the car to go everywhere and do very little exercise.
I am very serious about this thread on keeping each other motivated !!!

Hi
Can I join this thread please? I'm back to wearing my pedometer and although I have just been out for a walk for about an hour have still only got 7943 steps on the clock! 10000 steps takes some doing, doesn't it? Aim to keep it up though, and to get out and walk in my lunch hour when I go back to work on Monday rather than spend it on the Internet.
Also starting my wii fitness regime on Monday. I've been on for 20 mins today, but I have managed to put on 4lbs since last time I had a body check.....how did that happen??!!!
Back to Pilates in a couple of weeks too - maybe that would be a good exercise for you SueEllen? Feeling really motivated to exercise at the mo - just need to finish off the last of the chocs and the Baileys before Monday to get back on the straight and narrow.
Good luck everyone!

Chickadee...vigorous housework and gardening DO count!
Just get Twiddling faster and harder!Stretch and bend when washing the windows or car!
Park in the furthest car parking space at the supermarket.
Get down on your hands and knees and scrub that kitchen floor!

I am just about to go out on a walk...it is raining here and I really don't want to go, but I am going to make myself!Aim to be out for at least half an hour.
I have been on the Wii for about ten minutes, but it was Wii music...so that doesn't count , as you only really move your arms!!!
I am planning to have a big clean of the house tomorrow...and use a bit of elbow grease!!Maybe I will put the music channel on and dance around a bit (will shut the curtains first!)
I went to the cinema last night and shared a bag of chocolate raisins ...does that count as one of my five a day??

Just come back fom my walk...had to tread carefully cos of the ice.Got to the village OK...and then slipped, banged my head...I could see stars, but mostly felt REALLY daft, when an elderly man had to pick me up.Walked back home with a humdinger of a headache, but felt quite virtuous for walking for over an hour.
Housework here I am come!!I am feeling very motivated and on top of the world!!!LOL

Ouch Bloss! or was the embarrassment factor worse?
So far today i have done 14,743 steps, of which 9790 were actually done in a walk ove 84 minutes. Most days i do over 15,000 steps - the benefit of dog - walking.
Over Xmas, i did a ridiculous amount of gardenening.
as you all know, I go dancing at least twice a week and depending on what you are doing, it can be either stretching and flexibility based or pretty aerobic. i hate housework, so that gets done in double quick time as well.
And as i have a dodgy back, i do my physio exercises every day and some simple stretching ones as well. I don't like repetitive stuff, so gyms are a bit of a no-no for me, though I have good things about the curves gym.

Hello all you keep-fitters this is a great thread especially the comments about the WII fit. I have just started my regime and so far have tried the balance exercises (v. bad), hula hoops (ok but was breathless after 2 mins) and yoga (quite good). Think I will try the jogging next. I am living in the French Alps for 3 months so will hopefully be doing lots of skiing plus we have our dog with us so she is getting plenty of walks in the snow. My aim is to lose a stone by Easter. Just need to stay away from the apres-ski!

Chilla...I am so impressed with the amount of steps you do per day!!As i said on an earlier thread, i haven't found a pedometer that is accurate and doesn't register hen you go over a bump in the car!
I have been really active this afternoon...oin housework!I have decided to view housework s exercise and hopefully more will get done and I will get fitter.I have cleaned the windows, hoovered right through swept the wooden floors and polished all the surfaces. The kitchen has had a thorough going over ...it is gleaming!
I did intend to tidy up the garden...but it is getting dark now so it will have to wait....I will just have to do some sit ups while watching the TV tonight!

As I've posted on Whitley Bays thread, try an Omron, Blossom. They are really accurate, I even dropped mine down stairs once and it didn't register one extra step! Sometimes it makes a difference where you keep it. Mine's OK in my jeans pocket or if I'm wearing a skirt, it nestles in my bra. We are very good friends, I've had him for 18 months and we've been for a lot of walks
