Hi
Does anyone out there suffer from hideous night sweats?? I have been getting them on and off for the past couple of months-they are awful. I don't feel hot but wake up and I am soaked in sweat-getting fed up having to change the bed all the time. Is this the start of the dreaded menopause? (I am 45!) I would be grateful for any advice on how to deal with it and/or to share in anyone else's similar experiences.. Jane

Hi Jane, I'm not getting night sweats but have recently been having a lot of daytime hot flushes even when it's freezing. I refuse to acknowledge it's the menopause as I'm far too young (43)

I hate to tell you both but its early on set of menopause. I am in menopause completely and let me tell you it can only get worse!!
I love to be there bearer of good news!LOL
I have an electric fan on my beside table pointed just away from me, and I switch it on whenever I get a night sweat, some people swear by the Chill Pillows too, tho have not tried them, think you can get them on the internet. Good luck you two.

Eeeek does sound like the sound of the menopause. I am 45 and have been having iregular hot flushes. I hear that it is best to keep to cotton bedding and nightwear. Hope it soon passes.

fraid so jane. Definitely menopause. But here is the good news. I found once it was all over I had more energy and felt better than I had in years. So there is something to look forward to. Pixie

I started all this age 46 and two years later I am considering HRT. I find it comes and goes though - what has affected me far more is loss of memory. V scary.

I was telling a friend of mine the other day that for no apparent reason I wake up in the middle of the night - bright as a button, can't sleep then come 6 in the morning I finally get back to sleep - groggy the rest of the day. Concentration is zilch - my friend said - menopause! OMG!

Been there and out the other side. I remember going out in just a tee shirt when it was snowing....and feeling warm !! I took Black Cohosh. Very effective. Takes a few weeks to get into your system though. Some people say it causes liver problems but my LFT's were being monitored anyway for my cholesterol and there were no adverse effects recorded.

dear god...is there nothing we can do to ease the sweats? no tips? no hints as to how to avoid them? I am already fed up with having to change my sheets on a daily basis-hate fighting with the duvet cover when trying to put it on (any top tips for that please??) It looks like its all downhill from here-is life officially over??

I bought a silk duvet from JL. It 'breathes' and is really comfortable to sleep under.
I must say that I was the same as GlyfadaGirl and sailed through with no problems. So if anyone is reading this post and thinking "oh no" don't worry not everyone has sweats, flushes etc etc. The only supplements I take are Evening Primrose and a joint/bone one.
I have noticed that my hair and skin are drier, so have switched to a richer face cream and use deep conditioners regularly.

I was having a horrible time until a friend recommended maca www.maca.co.uk it has woprked really well for me. I take four day (tried two but didn't make a huge difference) no more night sweats, memory a bit better and I fancy my OH again (luckily he stil fancies me too!) On the duvet cover, turn it inside out, put your hands in the far away corners and just pull t cover down, works a treat, even on kingsize, and I am not very tall

I am half way through them - a good idea is to not eat huge meals or drink too much alchohol - this seems to make the sweats worse. Also not to drink hot drinks before bed.
An invaluable herbal remedy is called Meno-Herbs available at Victoria Health Stores - rather costly but really good for serious sweaters! Hope this helps.

Did you buy the maca from the website? How do you know if it is safe? I don,t get night sweats but I do feel very tired and seem to have lost motivation. Beth27.

Yes Beth I got it from the website. I have a relative who is a gp and checked it out - its just a plant but people in less developed areas are much better at herbal medicine than us and know what works. I have been taking it for about eight months now, it worked in less than a week. When I forgot to take it on holiday the sweats came back in four days. It is not cheap, but it is such a relief to get a good nights sleep and only have to deal with OH snoring, but I know that one thing is not everyones remedy or else the drug companies would have had a field day years ago

Thanks for all your suggestions. I also seem to struggle to remember stuff-I thought i was going slowly mad, so its comforting and reassuring in a way to realise that its part of the whole curse of the menoapuse-I am too young for all this (obviously not) Thanks Anne for the duvet tips! The last thing I want to do when I get back from a rubbish day's work is have to make the bed. I use cotton sheets and cotton nighty-have got towels on standby for use during the night. I find it hard to get to sleep and once I wake up in a sweaty heap, I just can't get back to sleep-so am constantly shattered! is there no end to this misery-boys have it SO easy!

Poor you.I have been taking HRT for many years now but a few years ago decided to wean myself off of them.Within a short time I could not sleep, became very clumsy had the dreaded sweats and couldnt remember much.GP suggested I went back on HRT but only take 3 tablets a week. This has kept all symptoms at bay.I tried Agnus castus,Black cohosh,Red clover and Evening primrose.NOTHING worked for me.Unless you have very strong feelings about taking HRT why not talk to your GP about it.I find that male GPs are not very sympathetic but then they don't have to suffer.Quality of life is so much better now.Good luck.
