Is anyone having the flu jab this year? I'm having one tomorrow and i always have side effects afterwards. I have reactive arthritis and the flu jab makes my joints ache really bad. I have to take strong pain killers and be spaced out for the rest of the day! Does anyone else have side effects? I have the jab because i have a heart problem and i had pleurisy 2 1/2 years ago which took six weeks to clear.

Gosh, I was swithering about whether to get it or not. I always get invited to (am 42) cause I too had pleuracy.
Have never bothered, but having heard that there may be an epidemic this year, wondered if I perhaps should?
However, I've got rheumatoid arthritis which has been behaving itself very well for a number of years, and I don't want to do anything that might disturb it.
Oh dear, I don't know what to do either. Think I will just put up with the possibility of getting flu!

I have had it for several years and had no side effects at all. I may just be lucky but I do know other folk who have it every year without any problems. I would urge you to have it Elsie. I was given it as my husband was ill and had no immune system......Im now old enough to be given it for my sake! I reckon it is much easier than having proper flu. Good Luck whatever you decide! xx

I too have had the jab for the last 3 years after a heart attack. I have felt a bit achey after but it is better than the possible alternative........but if anyone reacts badly then I can understand why you would be a bit dubious. But im booked in again this week for this years.

I pay to have 'flu jab.I had a nasty flu 4 years ago and ended up with bacterial pneumonia.Altogether I was ill for six weeks,so although I don't strictly need it on medical grounds, I am having it done at Boots for £15..you just make an appointment. Last year I was still an NHS employee and staff get it free. That was my first time and I didn't have any effects from it.

Hi Elsie. I've been getting the flu jab for years now because I'm a chronic asthmatic. I've only had side effects once. The flu jab changes every year to try and combat whatever flu they think might be going to hit us all which is probably what causes the reaction. Personally I think with things like this it's the luck of the draw but if I had to choose between the way I felt the last time I had the flu and getting the jab I'd take it every time because any side effects only last for a few days.

HI everyone. It was interesting to read your comments on the flu jab. I've just come back from the doctors after having one so i'll see what happens with aches and pains this year (nothing i hope!) I think the side effects are better than the flu for sure and definately better than getting pleurisy. As you say the side effects only last a few days and not six weeks of illness as with the side effects of the flu.
