Hi, im knew to all of this and i dont know if im posting in the right place so please forgive me if im in the wrong room.

Im on the contraceptive pill but on the 3rd of this month i had sex without a condom, on the 4th of this month when i woke up in the morning i had really bad pains in my hips, back, tummy, ribs and they all felt bruised. I was in agony and i couldnt laugh, sneeze, cough because it hurt like hell, i was also of food too. My muk took me upto the hospital in the evening because the pain was getting worse. At the hospital the docter listened to my breathing and asked for me to do a water sample which i did. He checked it while i was there and said that there were traces of blood in my urine and that ive got a very bad water infection and a virus so he gave me some antibiotics and some anti-inflammatory to take. I didnt start taking the tablets till the 5th of this month first thing in the morning. I know that antibiotics can cancle the contraceptive pill but i read that it can cancle the contraceptive pill if i have been taking the contraceptive pill for 4-7 days before and that if that is the case that i may become pregnant. All day today i have had really bad pains in the lower part of my tummy and the pains feel like period pains but im not due on my next period for about another 2 and a half weeks. Could i be pregnant? please can someone help?

Hayley,
go and buy a pregnancy testing kit if you are unsure.

Hayley is right, do a test, but if you have a local family planning clinic go there or your dr or nurse and tell them what you told us. They will know for sure how your particular pill works and interacts with antibiotics. Don't have sex without other protection until you've got advice, you don't want to get pregnant now!

Hi Hayley, It sounds unlikely that you are pregnant from what you have said, but I think you need to phone your GP or practice nurse to put your mind at rest. Or you could always buy a pregnancy testing kit from the supermarket.

Remember to use alternative contraception for the rest of this month as you will not be properly covered by the pill if you are taking antibiotics.

Good luck. You know you can always come back to us if you need to.

It sounds as though you have got cistitis (urine infection) - drink loads of water, cranberry juice or lemon squash which will help, along with the antibiotics. Carry on using a condom as well as your contraceptive pill. I remember when I first had cistitis and it was really frightening as had no idea what it was.
