Morning girls....
Well if I thought my cold was bad yesterday...It's even worse today. I have just spent the night sweating buckets and coughing and spluttering with a head fit to explode... I can't try to sleep anymore as I ache from head to foot and one minute can't get warm and then in the next minute I'm boiling hot... I have already reluctantly decided not to go in to work today. There is only one other person in the office and she has been on call this past weekend so I do feel quite guilty. There should be another person in but she is a lady who quite frankly should have been sacked for taking the pi** ages ok but you know how difficult it is to get rid of people even if they're incompetent etc etc. She has gone sick yet again and left a mountian of unfinished work to do. All last week we worked really hard to clear up her mess (if we hadn't done it it would have been bereaved families who would have suffered as inquests would not have been ready in time for court) We have another office not too far down the road from where I am based (they are more fully staffed than we are) and in all honesty I think my manager should get one of them down to where I work to help out my colleague. I know I seem to be rambling on but I feel very guilty about staying off work. But I don't want to drag myself in and make myself worse which will spoil the coming weekend for which we've all worked so hard and which I am so looking forward to. Also I am on call next week and I don't want to feel even worse by then and cause more problems at work. Am I doing the right thing.... I really feel crappy and tearful at the moment...

Sal, apart from the fact that we all need to heal when we are ill, you could spread the bug around. It would be irresponsible for you to go in today. Get some Lemsip and do whatever fells right all day to let your body rest. Get well soon!

Sally get well soon and I hope that crappy feeling soon and as each day passes it will see you feeling loads better. I have just picked my crop of golden delicous apples so here is one for you and I trust it will keep the doctor away.

Take care and best wishes from me Debbie who's feels far less crappy today and since our daughter went away.

Don't feel guilty Sally your body is telling you to stay at home and rest up. Have some Lemsip (other cold remedies are available) curl up on the sofa and I'm sure you'll back to your normal self soon.

Sally, you are doing the right thing. I had a terrible cold a couple of weeks ago and felt so ill on the Monday morning that I just couldn't go to work. I felt very embarrassed and guilty having a day off work 'just for a cold'.
But it was the best thing I could have done; I took it really easy all day and felt so much better the next day; not recovered, but definitely on the mend.
It's very important to listen to your body.... And try Day Nurse - I thought it was great and was very sad when the bottle was finished!!
Take care xx

If you were at work, the last thing you would want is some colleague playing the martyr and coughing and breathing germs over you. Console yourself that you are putting the interests of everyone else first. Then choose to give up feeling guilty and listen to your body. olbas oil on your pillow and a nice hot water bottle may make you feel nurtured. Hope you start to feel better.

Hi Sally, you feel guilty about not going in because you are a conscientious worker! Don’t feel bad about it; you’ve got a fever and a temperature for goodness sake!! Put your feet up and relax and get better. You’ve got the forum, Phil and Fern at 10.30, Loose Women at 12.30 - there's so much to keep you occupied and entertained!!
Enjoy your day off and get better soon!

I echo everyone's sentiments here Sally. I had a friend whose brother-in-law had flu, kept on soldiering on & wouldnt take any time off. Well, unfortunately complications occurred & he developed pneumonia & shockingly he actually died. He was only 37 and the cause of death was stated as flu . So please rest, flu can turn really nasty if you dont listen to your body.

Sorry you're not feeling good today Sally. Rest and keep warm and ignore the 'I feel guilty for not going to work thoughts'. Take care Bx

Thanks girls for making me feel better. I phoned work and spoke to both my colleague and my Manager who were very understanding and told me (in the nicest possible way) to stay at home until I feel better and keep my germs to myself. Fortunately as well OH had booked today off anyway because D has a Baker day from school so they are both looking after poor old Mum and making me feel very pampered. I think I'll have a lovely soaky bath and watch a bit of daytime TV...

Poor Sally, I sympathise loads, I HATE colds, I would rather have anything, except a cold. When I smoked they used to be horrendous, with nasty coughs, but now I don't they are a little better. But still horrible. Put the tv on and snuggle up, and if you feel like dozing off then do, as you never sleep well at night with a cold.

Poor Sally Take to the sofa and enjoy some TLC - it's the only way to treat a real stinker of a cold!! Don't feel guilty about work - if you spread the germs around, you will be the only person at work who is well next week!! Anne xx
