Not again! Feeling sick and horrible just when
      #211398 - 03/10/2008 09:12

I have to be fit for arthroscopy on my knee(s) on Monday. I have waited months for this appointment. I have to have general anaesthetic, which I hate, anyway. My daughter has a horrible cold and I feel dreadful. I have taken a dose of vitamin C, gargled with Corsodyl, cancelled a meeting for work...any other ideas for ensuring that I am OK?

Get some echinacea fast!!! The liquid is best. Take big doses for a couple of days. It might be too late, but got to be worth a try.

Good luck x

Oh! Chickadee, what rotten luck

I don't have any advice other than keeping warm, resting and just looking after yourself for the next couple of days.

Hugs.

I take multivitamins and minerals and extra zinc to boost the immune system.

If you feel bad now at least you could hope that it will be a bit better by Monday.

We have had a nasty cold virus and I spent as much time as I could in bed!

Thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery after Monday.

Hi Chickadee
I'm another great believer in Echinachea ?sp
As soon as I get a hint of a cold I take it. Apparently you shouldn't take it long term- only when you need it

Thanks folks - I have dashed out and got (and taken) some echinacea, as well as my vitamin C with zinc, also lemon and honey, wrapped up warm, cancelled work for the day, and am treating myself with kid gloves....please keep your fingers crossed for me, as it is really important that I get this done now - I've organised all my (self-employed) work around it, and waited sooooo long!

Hi

Having been laid up all week with a horrible cold I sympathise (I can also sympathise with the arthroscopy but that was a good few years ago!).

The other morning while wrapped up in a blanket watching day time TV, I came across a very short programme which had a doctor telling do's and don'ts of a cold. He had some bizarre advice for when you first feel the effects coming on which are strange but you can see the sense - they may help:

1/ the virus will sit at the back of your throat so hold a hairdryer at arms length on warm (not hot) and try and breathe the hot air - aparantly helps kill the germs!

2/ before bed, rinse out some cotton socks in cold water, soak your feet in warm water then put on the cold wet socks ( ) put nice dry wooly ones over the wet ones - seems it forces the body to speed up circulation which in turn speeds up the virus so you'll get rid of your cold earlier!

Bit late for me as mine was in full flow with abarking cough but you might catch it in time - Good luck

I'm also a great believer in the vitamin C and zinc tablets, also chicken soup, and essential oils. I add an anti viral mix of essential oils to warm baths, and, at the beginning of a cold I start the day with a steam inhalation - get a bowl of boiling water and add 1 drop each of lavender, tea tree and eucalyptus pure essential oil, then lean over the bowl with a towel over your head and inhale. Spend a lot of time in bed, and use those tissues with balm in them to avoid the kind of nose that glows in the dark! There's also a product you can put up you nose to help - it's called First Defence, and it's by Vicks - that's another thing you can try - get OH to rub Vick on your chest.

Hi Chickadee, I suspect it will be difficult for you to be selfish this weekend but you need to be, so I think what you need is the settee, books & plenty of fluids. Have three early nights and don't dash around on Sunday when you start to feel better. Fingers crossed you start to feel better. Sue

I really do hope you feel well enough for your op on Monday. The Girls have all given good advice so I can't add anything.

I hope you feel better soon, I really do

Thank you everybody for all the kind thoughts and good advice. I have:
*drunk loads of orange juice,
*taken Vitamin C and echinacea
*tried the hot hair dryer treatment - it felt very wierd - but decided the wet socks were a step too far!
*had hot baths with lavender, tea tree, benzoin resin and white thyme essential oils
*drunk hot lemon and honey, both with and without whisky
*stayed in the warm and cancelled all outings
*had spinach and watercress salad for lunch
*been really touched by everyone's kindness and positive thoughts
and I do feel a lot better, but will take your advice too sue11 and continue to stay in the warm and rest up tomorrow.

thank you so much everyone - fingers crossed I will be OK on Monday!
