good morning ladies Probably not the nicest of subjects to discuss but it has been on my ind lately "you are what you eat" two weeks ago I went on a short holiday to the North of Spain it was wonderful and so was the food, but very different to what I am used to eating , In Santiago the food is more like Irish food lots of bread delicious potatoes lots of starch meat fried food ,it was all lovely and I enjoyed every bit what I did not enjoy was being constipated and I was for about 4 days, I started to eat fruit and it was better ,as soon as I came back home and got back to my usual Mediterranean Diet I was back to normal and felt so much better , this week end it has been the opposite I think I ate something that did not agree with me and have spent most of the weekend running back and forth to the loo. So I am hoping that one thing will even out the other and when I stand on the scales tomorrow I will not have a nasty surprise . so ladies lets remember we are what we eat and lets eat only good healthy food , have a lovely Sunday all of you beseosxxxxxMaria

SL, I can recommend a probiotic yoghourt for improved digestive transit (she said, trying to sound posh, cos it's Sunday!). Can you get Actimel in Torrevieja?
I do agree we are what we eat.

Drink lots of water. Something we cut down on when travelling because we are not sure where the nearest loo is, so tend to play safe, with dire results!

I wondered if probiotic yoghurt really works as I need some help too (this is all too much information!!! ) Had Activia for breakfast, and will keep trying it. I am also trying to increase my intake of fluids - I don't have to go anywhere for the next 24 hours so lots of trips to the loo wouldn't be such a nuisance. I felt really thin a couple of days ago and now I feel bloated - but I also feel ill, so that desn't help - some horrible virus that makes me exhausted and full of aches and pains - not a happy chick this morning. Hope you feel better soon SL - it's nice to lose weight but not to have an upset stomach.

I find that to sprinkle linseeds and sometimes other seeds and nuts on porridge or on yogurt and fruit in the morning works brilliantly. After years of problems, when extra fruit and liquids and fibre did not help, the teaspoon of linseeds a day does the trick!

LOVELY!!
Thanks SL for the subject today, I come home to get away from bowels, the elderly can be quite obsessed!, I know how easy things can go wrong, either way tho, and its not funny!
Pesonally, I dont have a problem, you will be pleased to know, I know you will have all been worrying.
Lily, we use linseed/flackseed at work too, and it does work.
Sl, have you finished your marathon?
Chick, I was hoping that you would feel better by now you poor love.

Afternoon ladies, On the subject of bowels I dont have the problem very regular so to speak. However when I eat bread I do feel bloated and get discomfort not in my tummy but in my midriff. Someone said I might have glouton (cannot spell it) Intolerant any ideas? Had two fantastic walks today I am so lucky to have two big parks only 200 yards away but never walked in them, what an excuse with a dog really enjoying it. Have a good evening everyone xx

Linby, one of the symptoms of gluten intolerance is weight loss! And since we're on the loo, so to speak, today, another is "floaters" - I'm beginning to think I should have PMed Linby .
Chickadee, this will cheer you up. Yesterday, when mjm was sending you good wishes, she typed: "I hope you feel batter soon". Surely this means you can have fish and chips for tea!! I love the typos on this forum.

Hello everyone! SL - I always get constipated on holiday too (sorry, mjm!)- it doesn't matter where we go. It usually gets better after a few days, so I think it is perhaps stress related. As Loo says, drinking lots of water helps eventually!
Sella_vee - I eat a lot more yoghurt now, usually for breakfast with a banana. I don't know how effective the probiotic ones are, I do like the Activia prune one though.
Chickadee - I hope you feel better soon. Mind you I think you've given it to me, because I had a sore throat yesterday and going throught tissues like mad today (keeps Boots in business though).
I don't have that much appetite today, although we have had sunday lunch - earlier than usual as we normally eat in the evening. We had my parents plus my cousin and her husband over for the meal and Mum has to be back home by 6 as she plays the organ for the evening service at her church. Only small portions for me, so I'm feeling quite virtuous. Although I did have apple strudel!!!
mjm - I said goodbye to my brother on Friday - yes it was emotional, but he'll be back in 2 years, and if I come into money perhaps sooner! I'm on the way to being skinny, thanks to all your encouragement (and everyone else's of course)
Linby - good for you, two walks. Today would have been perfect for a walk, but of course we had family over so didn't get out!
Hope everyone has a good evening! Are we all ready for the weigh-in tomorrow?

I missed the batter Sella! But I had fish and chips the other day - our local fish and chip shop does children's portions - really sensible - it was the first time in many many moons.

Having suffered from constipation for three years I am cured and it was easy! I have two tablespoons of linseeds, plus pumpkin and sunflower seeds on my cereal or in a yoghurt for breakfast. Plus I take 3 magnesium tablets daily. Its been amazing. I feel so much healthier and my bloating and pain have almost gone. I cannot eat normal bread and pasta so now buy gluten free, but this has just helped and was not the initial reason that things got moving ( if you know what I mean). So glad this is all anonymous!!!

I find having a small teaspoon of manuka honey every evening stops constipation and it is supposed to be good for you its quite expensive but worth it one teaspoon is enough for me Violet

I find psyillium husk is brilliant because it helps with "consistency" which is helpful if you have "fissures". It also lowers "bad cholesterol".

I too developed this problem and have had it for a good two years now. I know exactly when it started and it was from stress at work.
I tried so many things and even ended up in hospital once with severe pain after many failed er....attempts on the loo...
In the end, I went to my doctor and begged her to sort it out. She had had the same problem and said the only answer for her was: Recipe:
Dried
prunes dates apricots cinnamon stick
boiled for 15-20 mins with water. Left to cool and eat every morning, if liked with natural yogurt. She said it was guaranteed to work after about 20 mins of eating. She was right! But the thing is it must be eaten every morning (for me anyway) which can get so boring. I've also bought phsyllium husk powder at the Holland and Barratt.
My weakness is bread too and I know I must cut down. Trying to change my diet habits to lots of fresh Thai/Chinese style foods. I love veggies and salads, not too good about eating fresh fruit esp. in winter.
Will try the linseed.
Happy days!
