This morning I recieved an email and according to Nicky Hambleton-Jones, presenter of Channel 4's 10 Years Younger, this is what we should be wearing for Autumn/Winter 2008/2009
Autumn/Winter heralds a time for change in every woman's wardrobe. Pick out the trends which suit you and your bodyshape to bring your wardrobe up to date this season. If you want help our team of expert stylists are here to save you time and money and make sure everything in your wardrobe makes you look and feel fantastic now!
Do the Highland Fling!
Get your key piece of the season, a checked fitted shirt. Taller or slimmer girls should team a fitted plaid shirt with dark denim flared jeans and add some heeled lace-up brogues. For the more petite or curvy, wear an oversized checked shirt with skinnies and flats. And tartan isn’t just limited to blouses this season – fitted shift dresses, full skirts and bomber style jackets are other viable style options.
The Hippy Shake
To get this season’s folk look, layer paisley pieces over black skinnies or opaque tights, accessorise with a slim belt at the waist and a pendant necklace. Opt for a voluminous blouse wear with boot-cut pants and accessorise with a bling ring. Add a shaggy fake-fur coat or gilet for full-on hippy chic! Jewel colours are key to this look, tops are smocked or silk embroidered with yoke detailing.
Red or Dead
For an immediate update, and colour injection into this Winter’s wardrobe, add an item of red clothing. Tomato red is the colour to be seen in, be it worn as an accessory, a red ruffle blouse or literally head-to-toe. Mix red with black patent accessories or glossy black tights to bring your look bang-up-to-date. Bright, tomato or pillar box red are great colours, they suit most skin and hair tones.
Pure Opulence
Be brave and break the rules, clashing brights is the way to go this season, be experimental and mix unexpected combinations with a contrasting sludgy colour. Try tomato red, fuschia pink with black or fizzy orange and raspberry with khaki. But remember bright tights should be worn only by the twiggy legged of us, otherwise stick to your trusty black opaques this season.
Soldier Soldier!
Military accents are back so to get your wardrobe ship-shape this season, ensure your jackets and coats have this season’s all important detailing - brass buttons, braiding or epaulettes. Wear your military inspired piece this season with long over the knee boots, metallic leggings or a ruffle blouse to soften the look.
Knit Wit
Layer a chunky knit cardi over a pretty floral dress for a 40’s inspired romantic wartime look. Other key shapes to look out for is the return of the polo neck, the sweater dress, chunky knit tunics, cowl neck detailing and voluminous knits.
Mannish
The waistcoat makes a welcome return to the high street this Autumn. Layer yours over a ruffle, pussy bow or sharp white blouse, wear with slim boot cut trousers for a clean flattering feel. This look is long and lean and great for day to evening.
See through you!
This season sees the return of lace as a strong trend. Black gives the most dramatic effect and dove grey or heather purple prove an alternative look. Go for a lace insert dress or a fitted ruffle blouse. Remember drop the accessories, keeping this look simple and sophisticated, avoiding tarty at all costs.
Pants are key
There are a range of key trouser shapes this season to flatter every figure and to suit every occasion. Choose from long and lean with a subtle flare for a sharp look that is flattering and leg lengthening, on the majority of body shapes. Worn with a slim fitting tunic, any lumps and bumps or bottom issues can be easily remedied! The skinny-leg pant remains popular this season, update yours with a voluminous blouse, add a pair of killer heels for a sexy evening look that’s great for petite women.
Black is back!
The LBD makes a welcome return to the high street this season. This Autumn make sure yours is figure hugging, slashed to the thigh or inserted with lace. Dress this classic piece up of down depending on your plans, accessorise with a statement necklace or skinny belt worn at the waist.
Curve
The Cocoon is this season’s flattering must-have silhouette. Coats are collarless, in soft wool with a structured neckline, rounded shoulders and concealed fastenings. Choose one in a jewel-like colour to brighten up those long wintery days to come
I am not a bif follower of fashion but sometimes I find these emails useful. What do you think?

I think Nicky Hambleton-whatsit wears clothes that make her look 10 years older! The outfits she chooses for people on her show are awful, you can almost see them cringe when they look in the big mirror but they have obviously signed a contract for the show so have to grin and bear it. The guy who does the hair and the makeup girl are good though!

I enjoyed reading this Bluebell35. I love everything about fashion. Thanks for posting it, and it could have been even longer and I wouldn't have minded in the least.

Hi again Bluebell. I know nothing, but I do know that purple is "in". I don't wear much black (other than Trousers) as makes me look washed out so no LBD's for me. I feel a trip to Bluewater coming on.

Yes I thought purple was in this season though she doesn't mention it. I can't do LBD they just make me look washed out. But I can do Bluewater - just love the place. When do you want to go Sweetpeasue?

I enjoyed it too but there is no way I'd wear tartan. Agree about Nicky H-J. hate her choice of clothes but as was said the hair and make-up is good.

I have always loved fashion, hair, makeup, in that respect I am a real girly (hate that description, but you know what I mean) kind of person. I know what suits me, but if I am to be perfectly honest I often wish I was a much smaller size, so that I could wear more fasionable clothes. I dont think I do too badly, but some of the clothes I love, but just know they would look hideous on me.
I havent worn much mauve, but will give the colour a try, she didnt mention gillets which I know are "In" this winter, I like those and already have a couple from a few seasons ago.
What I try to do is to take a fpoi, and then modify it to suit my style but most importantly - my age.

sweetpeasue - No I'm not that well conected, I wish. I sighed up to her website ages ago and now I get these regular e-mails letting me know "whats hot" !!
Psyche - no I would not wear tartan either, although I am sitting her in red/white checked jim jams - so that nearly counts lol
I hope that none of you think that any of my post was me giving fashion advice - I copied & pasted from the email I promise.

I don't think I'll try the skinny trousers look - my legs just aren't the right shape!

Had a look in Principles the other day and they autumn range is really wearable - lots of earthy greens and cream... not so sure I will go for the jodhpur look though: super high buttoned coats and jackets. There are some nice tartan blouses around.
Inspite of all that, bought a violet scoop necked sweater to go with my aubergene tights. Found a great website for tights - almost arrived by return of post and lots of colours.

Mollymandy, can you tell us which website you use please? I'm fed up with not being able to find tights in anything other than black and shades of brown.
Thanks Chrissi

ChrissieFi,
I bought a load of different colours from Marks, brown, olive green, a kind of dusky pink, they have a really good selection at the moment.
