Good hairdresser in York or Harrogate area
      #199648 - 20/09/2008 17:41

Can anyone recommend a good hairdresser in the York or Harrogate area ? I've been going to the same hairdresser for a few years now and she does a good job in styling but doesn't seem to be able to help with my colour despite me talking it through with her.

Hi Newby_Sue

I've been getting my hair done by David Wilson at Alquimia Spa on Stonegate in York for 6 years. He has though left now and is setting up his own salon on Micklegate, York which is due to open at the beginning of October. It is been refurbished at present. The signs are up outside "David Wilson Hair". His website is www.davidwilsonhair.com. I don't have his new number yet. He isn't cheap, but I think you get what you pay for. He will take his time, talk through what you want etc. He cuts and colours and I think he is excellent.
Hope this helps
Anne

Hi Anne

Thank you for the tip. David sounds just what I'm looking for - someone who will listen and offer advice.
The new website gives a telephone number so I'll give him a ring to see if I can get booked in. I'll let you know how I get on :-)

Sue

Hi Sue

I go to a lady in New Earswick, she's really good and I love my colour now and she's reasonably priced. I've been all over before I started going her. I trained as a hairdresser years ago and I'm very fussy about my hair. If you want details let me know.

Thank you for the tip. I'm going to try to get in with David Wilson as he is in York, if he can't see me then I will come back and ask you for the details of your lady.

I desperately need to find somebody. Most posts I've read are looking for something to stop it fading - me I can't wait for it to fade !

Sue

If your hair is too dark, maybe the colour is too solid?

Natural hair colour is lighter on the ends and darker at the root, as well as consisting of more than one tone. The best way of achieving this effect if you are very grey is an all-over tint (or semi permanent), with a few highlights/lowlights scattered through. Your stylist should take into account your natural skin tone as well as the porosity of your hair, when selecting the colour and deciding on processing time. For instance, some people's hair (the porous type) 'grabs' colour quickly, so if its left on for the prescribed time without taking this into account, it can end up too dark, particularly the ends, which are always more porous...

If you get the roots done every 4-6 weeks (and not taken through to the ends), then the highlights need only be refreshed every 3rd or 4th visit, depending on how much you have cut off each time.

Of course if you find a decent colourist, they will know all this already! Good luck...

Thank you for tips and advice. I went to David Wilson's new salon last week . The colourist who did my hair has done a great job, it looks much more natural. Absolutely no diappointment this time.
