Morning all, Can anyone recommend a good hair straightener? I have a Remington, but its old and takes a while to heat up. I have short hair and I need one that heats quickly as my mornings are busy ( school run etc ). Thanks, Kate x

Hi Kate
Think GHDs are the best straighteners, as used by hairdressers (so that says it all really). Expensive, but well worth the money.
Maybe you could get them cheaper off ebay, or some other website?

Have you ever tried GHD straighteners? They are expensive but heat up really quickly and are the best I've ever used.

Think a lot more ladies will agree with us! Don't think they can be beaten. In fact I am sitting here right now with beautifully straightened hair 'cos just back from hairdressers!

It's not a mop Eileen - you have lovely hair! But if GHDs can straighten your curls, they must be good! Mine is straight anyway, but still use 'em.
Will be in touch soon when next meet is decided!

Hi there, I would recommend Babylis straighteners. They are the ones my friend Angie bought from Boots. She straightens her hair everyday and it always looks good. I saw them half price in Morisons the other week for £30.00, which for decent straighteners is pretty good. You can get them for as little as £5.00 in sainsbury's and probably other places too but I should imagine it's worth paying £30 for a fairly decent brand. The ones I got my sister were £50 and they are made by Remmington. They are very nice, non static, and came with a bag with heat proof mat attached which is a good thing to have. Never put them on the carpet!

Definitely GHDs. They have ceramic plates which are much better for your hair. A good pair will be over £100 but they are an investment purchase!

I have been tempted by hair straighteners but could anyone tell me please - do they damage your hair? and do they make your hair shiny?

ghd's are the best, but beware of buying from ebay, there are a lot of counterfeit ghd's on there. if they're cheap then they're probably fake. i'd only buy from a salon, then you know they're ok.

You can buy GHDs direct from their website (just google for info). Foxie, best thing to do is to use a heat protection product (serum) and apply before using straighteners which should prevent damage. They do get very hot - have had more problems with burnt fingertips and earlobes than damaged hair but that's me being careless! As for giving your hair a shine - yes I think they probably do. My OD has pretty straight hair and I could neve work out why she felt the need to straighten it but it really does make a difference and I use them every day now.
