Hi, I just wondered if anyone else is currently doing an OU course at the moment and if so which one?
I'm doing a short one on archaelogy or would be if I could find the CD that came with the course material. I shall have to start my own 'dig' to find it hidden under layers of family debris.

not doing an OU at the moment - about to start a course at Leicester Uni that is related to work. However, I have done them in the past and thoroughly enjoyed them - it was the only way I was ever going to get a degree as I was working full time and bringing up two small children. Best thing I ever did.
Good luck with the course - I am sure you will love it, once the disc comes to light!

Just starting 2 modules with OU to gain a level 4 Certificate in early years. In a moment of madness I decided to do both modules at the same time so I finish in May next year. If I had done then separately it would have taken another year.

Not doing an OU course at the moment but did my Dip in Social Work through them then topped this up to get my B sc in health and social care which I completed 2 years ago. I found this a really good way to get the qualifications I needed whilst working full time. They had support forums for the different courses which I found very useful and all the information you needed was provided. Good luck with your studying.

Not at the moment, I got a diploma in natural science with biology a couple of years ago, hard going at times but on the whole i loved it. I would like to finish and get my degree but too much pressure from other things in my life at the moment. Well done for starting OU, its a great system, I learnt so much more than just the science. I have done several courses with the OU in fact I got my degree with them in the end after several years. I had some really good times with the OU and met many lovely people. My Daughter also did some courses with them I am not sure but she may have done that course and have the CD, I will have to ask her and get back to you on this. I feel you would not ever go wrong doing an OU course so good luck and enjoy, jean

I would love to do another OU course but at the moment the cost is something I cannot afford. If someone knows of anything cheaper distant learning would be a great help.

Me, Me, I have just gained a Bsc(Open) with them and it's been great, sometimes frustrating and very hard work. The best and worst bit is when the marked assignment pops through your letter box. I have a couple of IT courses, Maths and History of Maths, and I also did their Diploma in Maths Education. I'm a Maths teacher (surprise!) and I would never have been able to stop work and go to Uni so I'm so glad they exist. The problem now is that there are so many other courses I want to do such as Social Sciences or Psychology or computer programming or post graduate or a short course or....... lol Saraw, have you looked into financial assistance? I know some students have used this. http://www3.open.ac.uk/studyatou/apply/financial-support.shtml April, they have been really good at sending out copies of things I have lost pretty quickly or there should be a transcript on your course web page. Happy TMAs!

Hi, I'm new to the forum, but had to reply to this thread. Ten years ago I got divorced and did two years part-time at a local college; got my CHE in Lit and Sociology, then went full-time at Uni. I've now got a BA (Hons) Sociology, MA in Soc. Research and a PhD and I've been tutoring OU students for the past 7 years. Many women (and men) combine OU study with full-time jobs or full-time childcare and, having done this myself at the start of my academic career, I know how difficult this can be. So, all of you doing OU courses, 'well done you'! The OU can be a great stepping stone to gaining a better job or just improving your knowledge. Trouble is, it's addictive! Now I've got my PhD I want to do further courses (the eternal student, methinks)! Keep at it, all of you - it's all worthwhile in the end! Lots of love, BevC

When I was working at a doctors one of the locum's was constantly doing OU courses, as well as being a GP she had done PhD and other degree's most in maths - she would do it in between seeing patients and loved it!!! I have nothing but admiration for the ladies doing OU or other learning courses, and I will continue soon.

I am currently doing an OU course in Social Psychology - and have a 3-hour exam to sit in 2 weeks time! So no more time looking at this forum for a while.

I hope to start a 2nd level History Course with the OU next Feb, although the reading starts now. I have passed a few courses with them, i think the OU is great.

Not OU, but a Distance MA in Linguistics at University of Nottingham - two modules and a dissertation to go, with just a year to do them in - it's gong to be a tight fit!
Aren't we an educated ( and determined!) lot!

As many other ladies have pointed out the OU is addictive. Having changed direction for a career in caring for the elderly I have been down to my local regional office and, as usual, the OU has something to suit. Hoping to start some of their health and social care courses and who knows I might build up to a BSc.
