Can anyone recommended a red wine? Nice and mellow - not too heavy etc. I usually drink a merlot or shiraz (or whatever S'burys has on offer really!!) but don't know what else to try.
What do you like??????

Our favourite, and always a standby if we don't know what to buy is Jacobs Creek Grenache Shiraz. Not too heavy and, in my view, reliably good. One of the few red wines I would drink without food.
I watch out for it on offer in the supermarkets; it often has a pound or two off.

First Cape Merlot (South African) is excellent and best when it is on offer in Sainsburys. Any Temperillo spanish red is usually nice and mellow and not quite so heavy as Rioja.
All of the Beaujolais crus are lovely - Fleurie, Morgon, Broully, Chiroubles (my favourite), Moulin a Vent.. etc. Georges Dubeuf is a really reliable brand.

For a nice light glugging red, the Tesco do a Sicilian red that is unbeatable, and only about £3.00 a bottle. Great in the summer in the garden, but also good in front on the TV on a winters evening.
For a heavier red, I like The Ruins, which is an organic wine.

Sainsbury's sell a Fairtrade red for about £4.99 which is gorgeous. Also galleo Sycamore Canon.
