      #186927 - 05/09/2008 10:41

Have three or four stubborn dark hairs sprouting from my chin on a regular basis lol !

Have serious eye bags and lines around my eyes !

Have an ever thinning top lip !!

Have a bottom that drops each year lol !

Would prefer flats than heels

Would get a bunion !!

Prefers staying in with a good book !

Goes to bed by 10 every night lol

Has hooded eye lids

Has back fat urghhh lol !!

and last but not least (but I am sure there are lots more I just cant remember right now lol) ever increasing size of inner thighs !!

Oh yes I know prefers big knickers lol !!

I used to go shopping all day with a friend...I did not expect to get tired after a couple of hours, and that's including a break for cappuccino!
I did not expect one day to be planning my 60th birthday, which is in December...me! 60! never! In my head I'm about 40!
I did not expect to be widowed at 50, and even then I did not expect to remarry and be so happy with my husband.

I did not expect to feel the same as I did when I was younger. I always thought older people were different, but no, they are young people with older bodies. Help!

I did not expect to find out that the saying "a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips" was actually true!!

Cupcake, isnt it scary turning into your mum! It happened quite suddenly for me, as her death and funeral occurred unexpectedly over Xmas when I was visiting, so I had to use one of her coats (only had a cagoule with me)
Ever snce then, I see her as I pass a mirror unexpectedly or a shop window!
Even my wardrobe has evolved into her colours!!

I didn't expect to feel so confident or that I would have such a good social life. I spent years raising my children alone, and used to think I would be too old to enjoy myself by the time they were grown up. I now know I was wrong to feel this way.
Am with janmac on this one I'm still a work in progress, and am enjoying every minute of it.
And I absolutley didn't expect to be dating a younger man, and what's more not feeling guilty about it.

I didn't expect to

enjoy gardening so much. I was so excited to count the flowers on my peony this year and I love picking my home grown tomatoes and beans

have quite as extensive a herb garden

be quite so happy not going out on a Saturday night

start chatting to people on the bus and in queues (just like my mother!!)

have such a wonderful warm cosy feeling inside when all my nearest and dearest are sitting together enjoying a meal. I just look around the table and really, really savour the moment.

find how little I need to be so happy

enjoy talking about family things with my sister

feel that my nephews are just as precious and special to me as my own children

I can't believe I need to wear glasses to read - I knew it would come but it just seems unreal now!

Didn't expect to have middle age spread. Or indeed be middle aged for that matter!

Didn't expect to have 'old lady' hands at 48

Didn't expect that I would have the career I have now

Didn't expect to have a bunion either or seek out the comfy shoes with 'support' lol!

Biggest shock - I now 'need' to wear a bra as opposed to wearing one because that is what you do! Comes as part of the middle age spread I suppose.

I wasn't really expecting grey pubes! Never mind, my stomach thoughtfully hangs over them!

Nipples that feel the need to sprout hairs, almost in competition with my husband

Why is it that now that I can only wear low heels they bring out all these absolutely gorgeous shoes???

Find that I drink as much as I did when I first started drinking and get tipsy much quicker

but most of all...
To enjoy being the age I am now, watching all the young people battling it out, thinking, was it like that for me, or have things just got worse over the years and we have just been one step in front of it happening?

Oh yes, and people watching. I love just watching people rushing about, interacting with one another in all situations.

I didn't expect to not care at all what I might get in my Christmas stocking.

I didn't imagine my bed would be more attractive to me on a Saturday night than meeting a guy in club.

I didn't expect to enjoy cooking dinner as much as I enjoy eating it.

I didn't imagine I'd pay off my credit card in full every month.

I didn't imagine I would answer the front door wearing an apron and slippers.

I never thought I would plan my evening around what's on tv.

I didn't imagine I would try to eat 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day.

I didn't imagine I would buy walking boots.

I didn't expect I'd go ballroom dancing.

I didn't imagine that I would enjoy giving more than receiving.

I didn't imagine my parents would get old.

I didn't imagine I would wear big knickers.

I didn't think one day it would be hard to climb out of the bath.

I didn't think I would need specs to drive my car.

Do you need any more?? I could go on!

I didn't expect I'd ever grow old. I don't mean that I thought I'd not live long enough, but somehow growing old was something I thought happened to other people, not me.

Never expected to:-

1. get divorced, or even remarried.

2. like wearing flat shoes (bought new pair today in a purply/mauve colour)

3. go to bed as my son is getting ready to go out!

4. enjoy being a Grandma as much as I do

5. experience the menapause/change, but so glad not to have monthlys any more!

6. my youngest son to live abroad and how much I would miss him

7. to be writing to "strangers" on a forum!!

Also agree with so many already written above.
