Am trying to build up to cycling to work, but need to arrive wearing a helmet as example to kids! But they're all so ghastly! In desperation bought a bmx one yesterday as can't stand those pointy ones, but have just tried it on and need to take it back! I'm not normally vain, but are there any even slightly presentable helmets on the market?

I felt the same way, but actually all cyclists look the same and you should just go for a standard type one - no one will really care what you look like, and actually you probably won't look that bad - just stopping yourself from getting seriously injured - who cares!!

Redpoppy, I'm also trying (not very succesfully!!) to build up to cycling to work. The thought of a cycle helmet itself doesn't worry me, but arriving puce faced and having to walk around with squashed hair for the rest of the day doesn't thrill me.

Yes, and will we need a shower and complete change of clothes when we get there? And what if we get a puncture on the way?! It's so easy to talk yourself out of it!
