My raised beds
      #182542 - 31/08/2008 10:14

I have got four raised beds and I'd like to keep them going throughout the winter. What should I grow? One is currently full of lovely cabbages, one has had peas. I've got courgettes and green beans and runner beans aplenty. Sowed some more salad yesterday.

I am an enthusiastic amateur so need the help of someone much more knowledgeable.

Look forward to some ideas.

Morning Mangetout.
I saw some thing " Grow your own vegetables" where they were doing research into getting most from your bed.
Have you got the book of series?

Off to Bicester village to see if I can get some new trainers now

Our neighbours (VERY KEEN gardeners!) have got raised beds for veg and they're crammed full of different things. I can keep peeking out of the bedroom window and send you a list for each season but it'll always be three months behind!

Could parsnips and leeks be grown in pots/tubs over winter too?

I guess so in theory ashbee- have grown tatties in tubs. Only thing is they need a lot of room so you wouldn't get many to a tub. Mind you, I always grow too much of anything- for example only ever need 6 red cabbages- one a month is plenty!

It wouldn't be a problem not to grow a huge crop - there's just the two of us eating them and so a few would be fine ... thanks, I'll give it a go...
