I posted a couple of weeks ago regarding my pending visit to Heston's The Fat Duck in Bray - especially in view of the weird menu - snail porridge etc. A couple of you wished me good luck and wanted feedback.

Well......it was amazing . Probably the bgest dining experience ever. The food was incredible. Only down side was the price =- £600 for 4 . eek.

But I'm not sorry - I will never forget it.

I saw your earlier post, but didn't reply as have never been, but my SIL has and she loves it too.
Glad you enjoyed it, now you can go and lie down, I should think the shock lasts for a few weeks after getting that bill!!!!

That's a lot for snail porridge, I'm sure I've seen it cheaper elsewhere? LOL

Janmac

What did you eat? The snail porridge? How was it amazing?

I'm not a foodie but love cookery programmes and saw his one and he goes to emormous lengths to create dishes.

How is it different?

Food - grain mustard ice-cream with red cabbage consomme; oyster with passion fruit gelee; crab biscuit with foie gras; sole veronique with triple cooked "chips" and champagne foam and truffles; a mini cornet of apple ice-cream and cinnamon granita ; black forest gateau ( like you have never experienced! ) with cherry perfumed ice-cream. Carrot lollies, orange and aerated chocolates and fruit creams, coffee & tea.

The others had different things and we all tasted a little of everything. My husband had a dessert with pine fir as one of the ingredients and was given a tiny sherbert fountain to eat to prepare his palate!

The snail porridge was on the tasting menu which we didnt have as the whole table had to have it and one of our party didnt fancy it which was a shame really. I did notice that when it came , the diners had a mini ipoddy thing attached to a conch shell to listen to whilst they ate their seafood course. Also they sprayed dry ice with different scents to entice your tastebuds.

The staff were fantastic and the restaurant itself is really unassuming from the outside - just looks like a cottage.

Really recommended for a 'big' treat. We are not in the mega bucks category at all but sometimes its worth doing something like this . In fact I think most of the people there were doing the same as us - having a enormous treat.

I much prefer experiences to pressies from my husband and close family nowadays. My biggie is Australia in a couple of weeks - well I was 50 this year - and my husband is having a weekend ( with me of course ) in Cumbria in December for his birthday, walking Hadrians wall. I also have some spa days from 50th pressies to use up. Really enjoying this whole year!!
