Good morning girls, Im just back from my walk with my friend, we havent been for ages, she has been on holiday and then the weather let us down. It was lovely to get out into the countryside again, its a bit windy but it stayed dry.
I hope you all had a good weekend.
SWEETENERS.....
Sweeteners are among the most contraversial of food additives. Advocates argue that the benefits provided outweigh the potential negative health effects. The perception is that consumtion of these sweeteners will lead to a reduction in calories consumed. This, in turn, will lead to weight loss or prevention in weight gain.
Unfortunately, this is not the case as detailed studies have not shown these sweeteners to reduce the amount of calories consumed or, to have any significant effect on body weight. In fact, aspartane may actually increase your appetite.
Check your diet drinks girls, aspartane could be in them, apart from being empty calories, they can make you feel hungry!

Hi mjm - that's interesting and just shows how misleading these things can be. I don't take sugar in my tea or coffee, so haven't had to replace that with sweetners, although I realise they are in lots of other 'diet' foods and drinks.
Hope you're all having a good Bank Holiday Monday. xx

I never use sweeteners or sugar in my drinks and very rarely do I drink fizzy 'pop'. I just don't have a sweet tooth at all so I suppose I am lucky......Now savoury things....HELP!!!! especially cheese. I think the diet 'replacement' culture is a bad one. All the lower fat alternatives to our real food can't be good for you. I would rather eat real food and just eat less of it and as PMK says really enjoy it!!

Morning mjm Glad you enjoyed your walk. OH and I went out yesterday for Sunday lunch, I had a small portion and still managed to leave some. We called at another local on the way back and they were having a Fun day which involed playing 50's and 60's records, and playing silly games, one involved eating as many fererro rochet( is that the correct spelling) chocolates in 4 mins funny but only women entered. They also had a roasted Hog and were selling sandwiches with stuffing and apple sauce. I did not participate but I did have a couple of white wines. I then went for a swim and completed 30 lengths again I was so proud of myself what a good day I had. I am looking forward to a great week ready for my succesfull weigh in, how's that for a possitive attitude? Have a great day xx

Hi Alex, I take 1 sugar (brown) in my coffee, but I only have 1 cup a day usually.
I remember years ago, pilots were banned from drinking diet drinks before they flew, because it had an edverse effect on their concentration too.
I am not sure if its a bank holiday up here or not, it makes no difference to me anyway, I would still have to work. We were promised gloreous weather this afternoon, 20 degrees and full sunshine, well, Im not holding my breath, its terrible out there at the moment, Im glad Im going back to bed.

Sally, lucky you, no sweet tooth, Im the oposite, I cant remember the last time I ate cheese or any other savoury snack.
Yes PMK says to ditch the diet this, low fat that and eat "propper" foods, its like a breath of fresh air.
intlw, it sounds like you had a great day yesterday, and well done with the walk and swim, I love your positive attitude, its contagous!

Hi Sallykins and intlw. I agree Sallykins - I would rather buy real food and eat less of it - I've never been a fan of reduced fat or reduced sugar foods. I don't have a particularly sweet tooth, but do enjoy things like cheesecake - as you might know from this thread!
intlw - glad you enjoyed your roast yesterday while still eating less. I enjoyed ours as well - I managed to make the vegetables the major part of what I ate and really enjoyed it.
Better to have one spoonful of brown sugar in your coffee than sweetners, mjm, especially if you only have one cup a day.

Hi ladies,
Thats interesting about sweeteners mjm, i have always found diet drinks always leave you feeling unsatisfied - always wanting to munch on something (probably to take that artificial taste away).
I am like sallykins, I have a savoury tooth and love just about any cheese accept the low fat diet cheese - the most revolting texture and taste imaginable and like diet butter, if you try to melt it, it just stays in one rubbery lumpy mass.
I agree with Alex and intlw - Long live real food, it has got to be better for us then all those chemicals and tastes better too.
Spanishlady, try real tonic not the low cal kind (with your gin?) and you will notice an amazing taste differance.
Have a lovely Bank Holiday and I hope the sun is shinning on you all (not here though - dismal and rainy again)

Hi again ladies,
I have had another thought (lightbulb moment!).
I have loads of skinny friends who will only eat real food - if they have coke, its the full sugar variety, if they are out for coffee its the full cappachino, chocolate shavings type.
Nothing they eat is every the diet version etc...
I also have loads of overweight friends (me included) who live off diet food, anything else is considered a rare treat....
Its spookey how they are so thin and yet we are struggling.

Hi everyone, we do indeed have food for thought. I don't like sweeteners at all and I always ask for a full fat tonic water when I'm in the pub, because I find slimline tonic leaves a terrible aftertaste. I notice it especially, as I don't drink gin!! I'm lucky in that I don't take sugar in tea or coffee. Like many of you I have a savoury tooth!
I'm trying quite hard to put the emphasis onto natural foods in my diet. I always try and avoid margarine in favour of butter as I'd far rather have a small amount of something natural than a large amount of something synthetic.
It struck me when we were on holiday in Turkey how fresh and natural the food at the hotel was. At breakfast the bread was wholemeal, the (unsalted) butter was the same colour as milk and the honey was still in the comb. They picked herbs and salad vegetables from the gardens and lemons and apricots from the trees; and they had their own olive press. It's the only holiday I've been on where I didn't put on weight.
I've been good with my exercising this morning, and with my eating too, which is just as well as we are eating out later. We decided to have dinner out instead of lunch.
Have a great evening, Sella x

Hi again girls too!!
It is food for thought gilley, Alot of skinny people I know "graize", they never go hungry, never eat more than they need, only eat what they really want to, and they really enjoy what they eat, ....
Does this sound familiar??
Sl that pitta and tuna salad sounds nice, do you have any left, I could take it to work with me??
Sella that holiday sounds fab, nothing beats home grown foods does it?. Well done with the exercise this morning, I hope you enjoy your dinner out, lucky you!
Have a lovely evening girls.
