A beautiful city and so much to do and see! We have been there about five times and I still want to go back. All the Gaudi stuff is very interesting, parc guell, etc. a walk along the front by the aquarium to the marina and the beaches is lovely. Don't know if they will still be on but the 'magic' fountains are good and free! Have fun but watch out for your bags on Las Ramblas!

I echo the warning above - watch your bags but don't let it spoil your visit. Barcelona is a beautiful city. The Gaudi architecture is amazing and the unfinished cathedral is incredible - but you really need to explore it with the guided tour on headphones as it helps you understand what you are looking at. Have a great time...

I also echo the warning of look after your bag - Barcelona police station is not great fun .... I speak from experience. Otherwise enjoy the gaudi, cathedral and some great museums and also wonderful tapas.

Definately use the tour bus (we were advised this and was not planning on using it BUT it is a must!) this was you can choose what you want to see and hop on and off. You could prob do this for 2 days as there is soooo much to see and do. The restaurants are amazing (but dont expect to eat before 9). Such a buzzy city. Have a lovely time.

The bus turistic is brilliant, as above, you can hop on and off and really plan your days.
This website gives some great ideas too http://www.barcelonaturisme.com
We particularly enjoyed Gaudi's Park, the Cathedral and the arts area (Poble Espanyol), the market in the Rambles is worth seeing if a bit weird with live animals in cages.
Be sensible when out as pickpockets are rife (as in most cities). We kept our valuables, such as money under our tops/jackets rather than in overt handbags etc and we were fine.
It is a fantastic city - we want to return there.

Bonnieblooming, definitely watch out for you bags and not just on Las Ramblas. I went last year with DIL's Hen weekend, and 2 of the girls were mugged late at night after they had been to a club. They were befriended by 3 people who said they'd take them to a club, and when they got them up an alley way they snatched their bags. We were all very aware of the problems with bag snatching in Barcelona before we went, but we still got caught out. So be very aware. Great city tho, on the the brighter side.

I hear it is well worth a visit. Have a wonderful time. I personally have never been to Barcelona but OH has and liked what he saw apart from the usual pick pockets one gets in cities. I have recently been to Killerton House and Gardens owned and managed by the National Trust since 1944. Owned till then by the Aclands. Killerton House can be found in Broadclyst Devon England UK. Worth a visit to my mind with plenty to see and including a big selection of costumes. We even had a chap playing the grand piano in the drawing room as we walked down the main and big grand staircase, magic

Hi Agree with all the recommendations but would also like to suggest you visit La Bouqueria, the most fantastic food market in Las Ramblas about two thirds of the way down towards the sea. The displays of fruit, veg, fish etc are really stunning, There is also a very good fish restaurant in the market. Enjoy!

The best thing about Barcelona is that my son lives there and I am going to visit him for my birthday mid-December!!
Have had one long weekend and seen the main tourists places, but cant wait for the next personal guided tour (the shops are a must on my birthday though!!).

Barcelona is wonderful. You will be spoiled for choice with restaurants, bars, sightseeing etc and all the suggestions above are right (well except the football ground but thats personal taste! Eixample is the perfect place for simply having a wander round getting 'lost' with all the moderniste buildings.
An absolute must is a meal at Casa Calvet on C.Casp, the building itself is a really understated Gaudi building which has been converted into a really stylish smart restaurant. We ate there in July / August and still rave about it!
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it but the Palau de la Musica Catalana is simply stunning. If you can go to a performance even better but if not then you should take the tour simply to sit in it and enjoy the interior.
Hope you enjoy.
