Arthritis again
      #176544 - 24/08/2008 19:24

I know that patdock has a post regarding arthritis, but could anyone tell me what the symptoms are like when it first starts?
I know that I'll end up going to the docs anyway ... but I have a persistant ache in my left hip. Lying down on the sofa makes it worse, but not lying in bed. I cycle now and again, and it doesn't hurt too much afterwards. Even sitting at the computer (at home and at work) makes it ache, and sitting at the dining room table for too long ditto.
I'm only 40 for God's sake!!! Does copious amounts of booze help?

Weeeel!! You couild try the booze BC40!!! My understanding is that hip problems give pain in the groin! Not actually in the hip!!! So it may be a back problem??? Just guessing but my OH is having groin pain and I am told by my doc(He won't go and see his!!!) that it is likely to be hip rather than hernia which is what I thought. 40 is young but I think it can strike at any age. Best to see the doc. tho' and not to indulge in guessing games!!!!!!Sorry about your pain tho'.

I am only 47 but started getting pains low down near my groin, but not actually in my groin - was always worse at night when in bed particularly after an active day. I never thought it was a problem with my hip though. Consultant said this was classic hip pain. I now can get pain in my thigh & bum sometimes I think because I over compensate when walking because of my dodgy hip and my lack of rotation in it.

It might not be a hip problem. It might be a knee, foot or ankle problem, and you are unconsciously walking in a way to protect the injured joint, and puting stress on the hip

Best is to get it checked. It might be that a simple arch support could fix your hip problem. No need to suffer more than necessary, or do more damage
