Anyone with any experience? Have had a single nodule under observation, following having become over-active , and they have now decided they're not 100% happy with it and it should come out. Bit worried about whether this is the right thing to do, or any other options. Condition largely controlled with carbimazole, though up and down days and permanently tired. Or is that just being late 40s!

You have my sympathy as I to have an over active thyroid but carbimazole does seem to work for me. I am going for blood tests next week to check on this. Having taken the drugs I am not as tired though can happily snooze after lunch if the opportunity arises and have to be in bed by 10.30 but definately more awake than before diagnosis! Muscle pain has gone as well thank goodness. If you look back on previous pages there are some other posts on thyroid conditions which might help. Go to Health and Wellbeing then scroll to bottom of page where you will see numbers for previous pages, click on any page you want to look at. Sorry I can't remember where the thyroid comments were in terms of pages but they are easy to trace as they do have titles such as 'Thyroid Help Please'. Hope this helps and you feel better soon.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestion. It is easy to find people who are underactive, but hyper is a bit more unusual. Some days, on carbimazole I feel great, and better than I have for years, others I come from work at lunch and fall asleep. What is scary too is that I have had Drs telling me I'm depressed/ stressed for about 4 yesrs, when I have complained of heart palpitations, tiredness, panic attacks, so heaven knows how long it has gone on. I changed GPs last year and in the 2nd appt they ran the tests, frightening really. Glad you are feeling benefit of treatment.

Hi I had a goitre for years, no follow up in England, now living in France, saw my GP he sent me for a routine scan, found multi - nodules, within 6 weeks in hospital and had whole thing out, now on France's version of Thyroxine. Surgery no problem minimal scar, just have to take tabs every day for the rest of my life. I was suffering from tightness in my throat and coughing alot at night. Thankfully tests came back on thyroid and non-cancerous. Its hard to know what symptoms were due to thyroid and all I no is that if there was something wrong, there was no follow up in UK. Ok I had regular blood test but they came back NORMAL - of course no sign of nodules because I was never sent for another scan.

Hi Earleybird,
I had all the symptoms that saraw had,and feel a thousand times better after having my Thyroid gland removed I had mine removed last year, and with a minium scaring which can hardly be seen, and I feel completly different no more stress/tiredness I wish I that I had had it removed years ago, I take thyroxine as saraw does and will for do for life.
