oh dear, i had it 2 years ago and its not pleasant - you'll be needing to take more than a day or 2 to recover ... i'd never had it before, thought i was too young (48) ! - take it easy, lots of rest!

anne you poor thing, maybe you should go home now, you are contagous if you have blisters, if they are covered up it will be ok, but if they are on your face, dont let anyone touch them.

Have you been perscribed anything for it?

Anne, I do feel sorry for you. OH had shingles a few years ago and felt really unwell. You need plenty of tlc, look after yourself and take it easy. I hope you'll feel better soon.

My eldest daughter has had shingles twice, once when she was 13 and the second time last year at 28, she was ill for weeks and the nerve pain she was left with took about 6 months to go. Because she was so young the first time the doctor could not prescribe anything so all she had was painkillers.

My advice Anne would be to go home now, take the rest of the week off, have lots of salt baths and wait untill the blisters have healed before you go anywhere. Oh and make sure you keep away from any pregnant women as like german measles it can cause problems.

Hope you feel better soon.

BIL had shingles a few months ago and was off work for a couple of weeks. He was told to avoid being near young children, the elderly and anyone who was pregnant. Oh and anyone who'd not had chickenpox.

Aciclovir is an antiviral anne, I am glad you got to the Drs early, with any luck the drugs will stop it from getting any worse.

Wear loose fitting cotton clothes, to make things more comfortable for yourself, and take analgesia if your sore.

Make sure you get plenty of tlc form your family,

Big hugs coming your way, or maybe not, dont want to catch anything nasty!!, you poor babe!

Hi Anne, I know how you are feeling. Had Shingles about 6 years ago, around front side and back of my right trunk. It does make you feel rotten, so I too would say get off home to bed for a few hours, then lots of rest and tlc for several days.

I had shingles a few weeks ago - horrible. Those tablets worked for me, would hate to think what it would have been like without them.
I covered my rash with a massive lint pad that had a huge bandage attached to it, I could then tie the bandage up around my body. This was the best thing I did to stop my clothes from rubbing against the rash. Also my body felt very sore and I found it difficult to walk.
I got over it in 2/3 weeks. It's very miserable. Hope you feel better soon.

My mother suffered from this about two months ago and is still feeling the effects. She was told to drink lots of fluids, rest and take painkillers. I read in a magazine that vitamin E cream can help the nerve endings and calamine lotion is also good. Hope you feel better before too long, but I think it could take a while (sorry).

I caught shingles around 3 months ago, they were on my face and around my eyes. I was lucky that they were only a few spots and they didnt involve my actual eye but that side of my face and around my eye was very swollen and painful. I still have a couple of scars from the spots. The worst part however was how tired and ill I felt. I was so exhausted and felt depressed and tearful, I wasnt prepared for feeling like that.

I ended up having 5 weeks off work since it left me with post-viral syndrome. Even when I went back to work I felt so tired, on my days off I was sleeping for 12 hours at a time.! It was partly as a result of this that I reduced by hours of work by half.

Although I feel much better now I find that if I work particulary hard or have a late night I feel exhausted for a few days.

Take care of yourself and dont try and do too much too soon.

The only good thing about the illness is that it forced me to look at my lifestyle and change my work/life balance for the better.

Thanks for all the good wishes. Am off work today and will make it a long weekend with the bank holiday. I work for OH and if I'm not working, there is no-one to do the payroll for the lads, so, will have to go in Tusday or no-one will get paid!! ES gets married in 3 weeks so hope I feel better by then.

Hi Anne,

I'm glad you have been prescribed the aciclovir. My OH had a bad dose of shingles 2 years ago, funnily enough it started on the Friday before a bank holiday. He couldn't get an appt at the docs until the following Tuesday, by which time they said it was too late to prescribe anything as the first days are the crucial ones.

He was off sick for 2 weeks but felt ill for about a month. He was very careful not to scratch but the back of his neck is still very scarred and he still gets nerve pain and has to take painkillers for it. The doc has since said this is because he didn't take the medication in time!

Anne, poor you!!! I PM'd you. But that was before I read about all these personal experiences with shingles. OMG!!! Like I said in my PM, I did not quite know what shingles was all about, and the info on google does not have the impact of everyone's stories..... I have had eczemas and rashes, but definitely never shingles! Only now do I realise how serious it is, and how ill you can be from it. Do so hope that you will be alright in time for your son's wedding!!!
Sending hugs,
Chatelaine xxx

Poor Anne, hugs to you and hope you are feeling a bit better by now.

And definately hope and wish you better before the wedding. I believe shingles are quite painful. Thankfully have never had them.

Stay in touch and let me know you are getting better.
Hugs,
