DAY 143,...............SLIPPERY SLOPE??
      #172852 - 20/08/2008 09:09

Good morning girls, how are you all today? I never got out for my walk yesterday, so I just had to do my usual stepping and bouncing routine wich burns off 500 calories.

Well I have a confession to make, I bought a huge family size "New York Vanilla Cheese Cake", what makes it worse is My OH doesnt like it, so it will be down to me to eat it. Ive worked out the calorie content and its 3660 calories in total, How many steps and bounces will I have to do to work that off??LOL

I had a lovely big slice with some creme fraiche after my supper, it was devine, sheer heaven!, that in itself I can cope with, but later on in the evening I stuffed 3 chocolate tea cakes with my Ovaltine, I ate them because they were there, no other reason!

I have put the rest of the cheese cake in individual boxes in the freezer, so that I wont have to eat it before it goes past its eat by date.

I am worried that this is the beggining of my slippery slope, and I will be letting everyone down.

MJM, you won't let us down, but you might feel you've let yourself down! I'm just glad that I'm not the only one who gives way to temptation - and NY cheesecake is VERY tempting! I think your idea of freezing it in individual portions is brilliant - you can have a small piece as and when you want it, and you will have to decide far enough in advance to get it out and freeze it so you can't eat it mindlessly.

Remember, though, this is not a diet -as you keep saying to us. You can have a treat as long as you are hungry, enjoy it, eat it slowly and all the other rules! AS for the three chocolate tea cakes, just chalk them up to experience. Did you eat them because you felt guilty about the cheesecake? I know that sounds daft, but it's the kind of thing I would do!

Anyway, that was yesterday, so put it behind you, don't beat yourself up or feel bad (because that only leads to more chocolate biscuits!) and get back on the wagon with us! We neeed you to drive it...think how well you've done so far!

No, you are not going down that road mjm - we won't let you!!! I've just posted on another thread saying 'I can resist anything except temptation'!!! Can you slice the cheese cake up and freeze it in individual small portions? PMK says eat what you want and stop when you are full.... so before you eat it have a huge glass of water and then eat the cheese cake. You were obviously bored - that's the worst time to eat anything. Last night I walked around my kitchen twice talking myself out of eating just about anything that was there. Felt soo virtuous then had a piece of OH's chocolate that was lying in wait to ambush me in the living room!!!
Remember the white jeans and strappy top!!!!!

Thanks for that Val, I think you have hit the nail on the head, The tea cakes were eaten with a "what the hell", kind of attitude, I felt that I had blown it by that point, so went the whole hog.

Your right, today is another day, I am just about to get on with my exercise, and then I will make a lovely fresh juice.

I WILL NOT LET MYSELF GET BACK ONTO THAT DESTRUCTIVE DOWNWARD CYCLE OF BINGE AND GUILT,

Thanks again Val for making me see sense!

I find that the first couple of days after a weigh-in are the trickiest for me. It seems like my body has decided that it needs a reward for losing weight and the reward it wants is FOOD, and yes it tells me that it really, really wants that slice of toast, piece of cheese etc so then the rest of the two weeks I feel like I'm making up for the first two days. By last night I was more or less back to normal (left some of my dinner because I felt full) but felt really FAT all day yesterday. If I can get past that "I've lost weight - I'll have a day off PMK to celebrate" attitude I'll be doing so much better.

That makes total sense to me too Chrissi, I know how you feel, I think that cheese cake was "my prize", having worked really hard at my exercise.

MJM..you are most definitely not on the slippery slope. I totally agree with what Val said as I get that frame of mind also. When I eat something which I have been conditioned over the years to think is a 'bad' or 'naughty' food then I go the whole hog and stuff myself even more. The whole point about this PMK thing is that no food is 'bad' or 'naughty'. If you want it then eat it and thoroughly enjoy it and stop when you are full. It has taken me almost 3 weeks to remind myself of these very simple golden rules which we all know ABSOLUTELY WORK!!

Also you are doing so well with your exercise that a slice of cheesecake and a couple of biscuits won't make any difference. Although I think it was a fabulous idea to slice up the remaining cake into individual portions and freeze them..

I think we all have to remind ourselves that this is NOT A DIET. We should not feel deprived or castigate ourselves for eating something we really want. That was my problem...the minute I felt I'd failed recently I started with the whole diet mentality and it just got worse....

Here's to all you fabulous ladies...from a newly invigorated Sallykins..

Sorry anne, I missed your post while I replying to Chrissi, I am going to go and have a trying on clothes session when I have done my exercises, that usually makes me feel motivated, thank you for your support. Ive already cut the cheese cake up and put it in the freezer, out of harms way!

Thank you sally, why I have been depriving myself of this blummin cheese cake, I have no idea, maybe that was the problem, Thank goodness for freezers hey!

I am so glad you are back with us again, your enthusiasm is contagious.

Morning ladies.Just reading your post's MJM you made me smile it's not cheese cake with me I don't like sweet things, but OMG what does it for me is savoury sausage rolls, pies, cornish pasties..... Come on you deserve a treat not only for doing really well loosing weight but giving all of us support and guidance, and picking us all up when we are down. Another week ladies. Because I stayed the same I have had a really good talk to myself. I am making time for me this next two weeks to go swimming, and to listen to PMK more. I looked in my wardrobe last night and found the one dress I want to get back into it's my Jaeger black dress I bought last year cost me a furtune but it was worth saving up for. I have put it where I can see it every day my goal is to get back in it and I WILL with the help of you all.

Hi all/mjm, I hereby decree one piece of cheesecake and three tea cakes doth not make one slippery slope.
I too have had these moments of feeling elated because quite a few people had noticed my weight loss, which was not huge in individual amounts, but over a period of weeks was perhaps half a stone, but I'm now convinced its was more about my reshaping around the muffin top area. I will happily welcome reshaping with open arms!
However, I did/do allow myself, as many people will know about me, my vice, CAKE. Sometimes like you mjm because I had allowed myself my vice, I looked upon it as "oh well done the wicked deed for the day another couple of cookies for dunking best be done today as well".
I hereby give you permission to do the dirty deed with another piece sometime soon/whenever. You got off the slope by putting it in the freezer, this can only mean YOU ARE IN CONTROL.
Well done everyone for yesterday, and me for only putting three pounds back on, Hah!

Good morning all and especially you mjm,

No you're not on the slippery slope it was just a litle hiccup....listen to what the others are telling you, you've taught us well. As PMK says...don't beat yourself up about it just get back on the wagon.

I hope you don't mind mjm but I want to quote something you posted not long after you started and this is what I wrote in a pm to my PMK buddy Helen .............."I've just read mjm's post for today and at the end she said..... "I felt great in my little skinny vest top and summer skirt, flouncing around, feeling confident and loving it. I never want to give this feeling up, it just gets better and better". How inspirational is that. That's how I'd like to feel......think I'll write it down somewhere to keep me motivated."
..........and I did mjm and I look at it whenever I'm feeling down and it keeps me going. It brings tears to my eyes even reading it now. So please please don't worry. We're all doing so well. Don't give up....WE CAN DO IT.

Thank you intlw, thats a great idea getting a dress or what ever, out of the wardrobe to motivate yourself, I did that with a grey pair of jeans, and guess what, I did it, I now wear them again and it feels great, so you can do it too, and we will all be here clapping when we get that post from you, telling us that you have got that lbd from Yaeger on., I cant wait.

AngB, you made me laugh, you have put it in perspective havent you, your so right, a slice of cheese cake and 3 t-cakes does not make me a failure, it makes me human!, I think!!

Shanti, thank you for that, it bought a lump to my throat reading it, It took me right back to that BBQ and how I felt while I was there, do you know what,I might just right it down myself. You will feel like that, you are certainly heading in the right direction, well done!

Hello flabuless ladies - helpful and inspiratinal as ever

Last night I had some chocolate and my OH was teasing me about thinking thin while I ate it (he doesn't understand properly yet, bless him) but I had decided that I wanted some chocolate so ate smaller portions at dinner and went for a walk (only 2 miles but I do it each day) and had looked forward to the chocolate all day. I enjoyed every single bit of it and don't feel the slightest bit bad about it.

Today I have gone back to having a healthy balanced meal for breakfast and lunch and will have something healthy at dinner - Weds is normally fish and chip night in our house but I won't be joining in because I don't want chips, I want to feel like MJM did at the BBQ.

And one day I will.

You've all been at this a lot longer than me so you have my admiration that you've stuck with it, and it's great to have your help.

Hello everyone
mjm, I just want to agree with what everyone else has posted. You are most definitely NOT on the slippery slope. No foods are "bad" or "forbidden". Brilliant idea to freeze individual slices.

Ladies, any advice on eating out? It was my son's 28th yesterday, but we are going out tonight - as it's quiz night - and having a family get together over a bar meal first. It's more of a restaurant type menu rather than typical bar food. How do you cope? All suggestions gratefully accepted!

Patsy you seem to have got it sussed, Im glad you enjoyed your chocolate.

My friend has got a recipe for dark chocolate, I tried it, and its lovely, she said there is no fattening stuff in it, and is full of nutrients, it should be taken as a food instead of a sweet, that sounds good to me, Ill ask her to send me the recipe if anyone is interested.

Ally what I do if Iam eating out, is I have something to eat before I go out, thats to make sure I am not starving by the time you get there, I dont bother with a starter unless I can take it as a main course, I will take a pudding just to make me feel that I havent missed out.

Just take your time, and try and concentrate on what you are eating, its difficult eating at social events, there are all kinds of booby traps, but dont be forces into eating everything that is put in front of you, most of all enjoy yourself, but you will realize that doesnt have to mean, that you feel stuffed at the end of the night.

Well done, mjm, for recognising that slippery slope when you stood there with one foot on it. We didn't even have to sneak up behind you and shout "STEP AWAY FROM THE SLOPE!". Eating the cheesecake was fine, you enjoyed every mouthful, and freezin the rest was inspired, and as valaber said, we then need to plan to eat it to allow time for defrosting. Stuffing your face with teacakes was where you went wrong , although if they were Tunnock's Tea Cakes I will forgive you, provided you ate some of the chocolate off the top and enjoyed the marshmallow .

To those of you who mentioned having a bit of a "break out" on weigh in days, can I just say "me too". I went out for lunch with OH on Monday and he tempted me with two glasses of pink wine.

Shanti, that was a great idea, reproducing mjm's quote to show what an inspiration she has been to us all.

Now I'm going to flash my warning triangle!!! No foods are forbidden and we can eat what we want, when we want, and enjoy every mouthful, but remember - ONLY WHEN WE ARE HUNGRY. If you are eating, or in my case drinking, , mindlessly, just because it's there, you won't lose the weight at the rate you want to, and may even sabotage your own efforts. Hands up all those who've thought "Oh b***er it, I give up". So now you know what to do, when it happens. Come on here, fess up, and we'll all give you a hand back up onto the waggon.

So well done, mjm, for once again leading by example and showing us the way.

Oh Sella, you have bought tears to my eyes, sorry to say they werent even Tunnocks, just some cheepos from the Asda Value range for 49p!, I cant even tell you what they tasted like, if I could have put all three in my mouth at once, I would have, how bad is that??

Sella I am terrified of getting that feeling of wanting to give up, I couldnt bare to go back to the way I was, eating everything in sight and feeling awful afterwards.

I cant give up, I just wont, I am soooo glad I fessed up tho, the support and encouragement and motivation that I have had today has been overwhelming, the Flabuless Foumers do it again,

ALL FOR ONE, AND ONE FOR ALL!!

You have all put me back on trake, and lifted me so much, that I have even done some housework!!

Steady on, mjm, eating teacakes is one thing but doing housework??!! If we have to do that as part of the plan I'll be getting drummed out of the FF club.

Have you considered that you might be feeling a bit anxious? Your description of wanting to put all three in your mouth at once rang a bell with me. It sounds like comfort eating with a Capital C. Sometimes (mostly, now, I hope) I eat when I'm hungry. Sometimes I keep on eating because I'm so enjoying whatever it is and it tastes really moreish. But the "stuffing the face", to use a technical term with which we are all familiar, syndrome, makes me think of unhappiness (experience talking here). Same with the "terrified of wanting to give up".

You will get over it. You're looking fabulous - I know that's true. Take a deep breath*, and remember we are all here for you.

* a very old joke to cheer you up:
Doctor, with stethoscope, examining the chest of a 16 year old girl says "Big breaths."
Girl replies "Yeth, and I'm only thixteen."
