LAKE TRASIMENO - ITALY
      #172512 - 19/08/2008 18:23

Hi Everyone,

We have just finalized our booking for Italy, the hotel looks lovely.

We are off to visit the Lakes, am really looking forward to it, we have been to Italy on quite a few trips previously but have never explored the Lakes, the Lake is called Trasimeno, its between Rome and Tuscany. There seems to be lovely areas to walk, and indeed other Lakes to visit in the vicinity.

We love Tuscanny, but never managed to get to see Sienna, last time we visited, so that is on the agenda.

Has anyone been to this particular lake? what did you think?

Plasmo x

Oh Plasmo how lovely... When are you going? We stayed in Lake Garda last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Are you driving? We actually got the train from Bergamo to the bottom of the lake and then the boat to our destination. It was a pleasant and inexpensive way to travel. I too love Italy especially Tuscany. We are off walking in the Garfagnana region soon and hopefully will visit Barga and Lucca (my favourite places) before heading home. Have you been there Plasmo? We spent a day in Sienna a couple of years ago and would love to go back. All that pasta and vino Plasmo...I bet you can't wait. Hope you have a great time.
Shanti

Hi Shanti,

Thank you so much for that.

We have been to Italy quite a few times, Tuscanny in particular, but never really to the lakes.

We are flying into Rome, and being picked up by the hotel people, and then we are hiring a car, we are so looking forward to it, the only downside is Maxi our little dog, has never been in kennels before, as we usually take him with us, but apart from that we are really looking forward to Italy, the food, and the vino collapso.

Hi Plasmo. We've been to Lake Trasimeno. As you say it's on the Tuscan/ Umbrian border so a long way south of the other Italian Lakes. It's huge and the area around it is lovely. You are also within easy reach of both the Tuscan and Umbrian cities. Perugia isn't too far but we were a bit disappointed. We loved Orvieto.
We're going to Italy next month too, but right down to Puglia in the south. Have posted on here but not one reply!!

I lived in Umbertide in Umbria about half an hour from Trasimeno - it is absolutely lovely and you can take a boat out to the islands. Sienna is in reach as is Florence and Rome. Assisi is very close and well worth a visit. Spoleto is a very pretty place but quite small. Perugia is a lovely city (The chocolate capital of Italy). I hope you enjoy your stay - look forward to your comments when you return.

Hi

I hope you enjoyed Lake Trasimeno. We went there last year with Shearings and had a wonderful time. Loved the setting and the old Italian villages that we saw. One downside - the church clock kept me awake all night !
